All opinions are my own.

I first met Vera Loo in February of this year at a Super Bowl Pop Up Market she was a vendor in. We chatted a bit about her business known then as Vera Loo and how she was in the beauty industry hustling her very unique bath bombs. She told me she initially created this business back in October of 2016 primarily for folks suffering from mental illness after she suffered through her own battle with depression. After finding out the benefits of self-care in the presence of mental illness as well as some battles she was going through with eczema and acne, she decided to start this line for those who were like her but were afraid of being rejected or humiliated. Her first line of bath bombs named Eve along with a mini commercial she made was a hit in her community on and offline so she kept going!

Vera Loo is a creative force to be reckoned with and Houston, we get to claim her! That’s right, Vera Loo was born and raised in Houston with occasional visits to San Francisco, California, where her maternal family resides. She completed her undergrad here and has been in the nursing industry for the last three years. Although she’s traveled a lot, she’s a true Houstonian at heart and an absolute joy to chat with.

Fast forward to late 2017 and I was meeting Vera Loo for the second time. We met at a popular Montrose spot called Agora, a Greek-themed coffee shop and bar with a sweet vibe. After settling into a quieter spot upstairs my curiosity got the best of me and I asked why she decided on revamping the business. She told me she wanted to take the light off her and into a lifestyle brand that caters to everyone and not just herself, hence the new name Vera Loo Presents. She wanted the brand to be independent of her influence so it could stand out and be consistent. Something that is crucial for all businesses starting out. Right now she’s extended her bath products with not only bath bombs but barre soaps and Pixxie Dust. (Stay tuned for March when she releases "Mystic Confection” an even more extended line of bath treats.) Aside from this extension, she has her own YouTuhannel where she shares advice and has reviews on various products. With a background in theater and production, it’s been a fun challenge for Vera Loo to create and produce for her audience.

Vera Loo strives for a certain amount of effort and excellence. She wants to make sure she’s reaching a variety of people in her audience which is why the revamp was so major. In this day and age, everyone is selling something so it was important to her (as it should be to you if you’re starting a new biz) to insert a ton of her own creativity in her products. This is what makes every brand different. She shares a piece of business advice with me on how it’s natural to be scared and to fear this new path but that it’s all in our head and since our minds are so massive, we have to be learn to control this fear. Only we can flip the channel and move forward with our dreams/goals. She tells me that everything on the other side of fear is bliss, ecstasy, and success. Sure, we were talking about food at the time but I think she was on to something when thinking about it generally.
In this era, you’re either amazing, you don’t give a shit, or you’re in the middle coasting. She told me that although she’s always been a bit overambitious and an overachiever, she’s pretty much been coasting. Now that she’s seen what she’s capable of and how people are truly interested in what she’s offering, she’s hungry AF and she wants to keep going.

Vera Loo’s favorite bath bomb named Pink Matter was inspired by one of her favorite singers, Frank Ocean. It even smells like peaches and mangos, something mentioned in the song. It’s a sassy scent unlike most of the others that can have more of an herbal or musky scent. Another reason it’s her favorite is because of the nice shimmer it gives you once out of the tub. If we’re talking about the Pixxie Dust, her favorite is Sky Walker because it’s the exact opposite with a calming feeling like no other.

Vera Loo’s goal right now is to get stocked up so that her products are more accessible to her Looligans, right here in Houston. The ‘Queen of Hearts’, a name her supporters the Looligans know her by, is considering a monthly subscription box but currently has something similar called the Glow Me box. This box has 4 bombs, 1 Cosmic bath, 1 Pixxie dust, and one barre soap.

I asked Vera Loo was her favorite quote was or what motivated her. She considers herself a quote junkie so this was sort of a tough question. One that she came to her rather quickly is from the late Maya Angelou- “I don't trust people who don't love themselves and tell me, 'I love you.' ... There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.” Vera Loo says it fits the business industry very well. You run into a lot of people who claim to be something they are not so you have to be careful or you’ll end up in an ugly corner. Another quote she likes is “Everything is everything and nothing is everything.” She says it means that every person you meet and everything you do has a purpose and you have to respect it. Be slow to respond and slow to get offended. Not everyone is like you and you can't expect certain things, so don’t get mad at people for their reactions.Vera Loo takes this quote to heart and to be honest, I think it’s a great way to process our journey in this life.
