Weekend Snapshots | 30

Today's late post is brought to you by this amazing Colombian hot dog that I had the pleasure of experiencing at the Beer, Beats, & Bikes event by Make A Shift on Saturday! It was like 400 degrees outside and we were on our bikes trying to survive -facepalm-

FRIDAY | Another bike ride in the books. This time, it was Crucial Matter's 3rd-anniversary ride. Both E & I represented small businesses in Texas by pimpin' a Taco Gear (me) & The Brewed Dude (E) shirt. I swear we didn't plan the green shirt thing!! We both packed our bike gear at different times & it just so happened we both picked green shirts. Consider checking out both links for sweet apparel. Taco Gear has a 10% OFF code for your first purchase, use 'houstontaco'.

I met Pikachu at the CM after party and then watched him get tossed in the air while a very talented female blew fire at him. And that's when Pika lost his tail 😆  but these things can happen at a party when you're a Pikachu and everyone is playing Pokemon Go so who's really at fault here? 😂

SATURDAY | E left early to ride the trails with the guys so I slept in a bit. It was nice but not nearly long enough.  The plan was to meet at a friends house to park and ride our bikes to Raven Tower where the BB&B event was being held. After hooking the bike rack up to Fancy's butt and getting all my gear ready, I realized I was missing some dogs. Long story short, I spent almost an hour trying to get two of the kids back to my backyard because terriers are little shits.

I finally met up with E and we rode out towards the event. We were not two blocks from his friend's casa when his friend's chain broke. After trying to fix it, the three of us headed back to the casa to get another bike. Yes, that's a normal thing when you're a bike aficionado. You just have multiple bikes! Mind you during all of this, we had to deal with the crazy heat that had taken over Houston. It was sickly hot outside, y'all!

Our arrival at BB&B was a super late one. The event was from 11-3 and our late asses arrived at like 2:40. Broke my shop-small-business heart. We did get some shirts and stickers from Stateline Designs, bought the delicious Colombian hot dog that I'd never had (check out this recipe), chatted with some folks (& handsome Max the Pom with blue hair) and checked out some sweet art by Jon Garner (artboy designs). We rode another thirty minutes to Axelrad for pizza and refreshing drinks. Oh, and the sweet hammocks. Yes, the sweet hammocks that we napped on.

SUNDAY | Typical morning with the boys on the bed. It's funny how it works out, though. Finnashit is always by my chest and Remidog is always by my feet. Neither of them fight over the location of the bed until I wake up and they feel the need to swarm me with slobber.

We're still making up for some Mama Carrizo birthday shenanigans so I went over there to hang out. We did some shopping and some grubbin' (as usual) but we also talked to my aunts through Facebook messenger's video chat. It was crazy because when I arrived at mom's, I could hear my sister and mom talking super loud into what looked like the middle of the breakfast table. When I saw that they were on a video call, I ran to get in it, too. 😛  It's always funny when I talk to them or they see pictures of me on Facebook (which is a rare occurrence) because they all remember me as a little 6-month-old baby & always remind me of it 😁  Mama Carrizo hasn't seen her 6 sisters in over thirty years and they're all technology challenged. So this was the first time seeing and talking to each other. Big deal, right?

Our shopping adventure was entertaining as usual but we realized we forgot our #boludaselfie when I had already gotten home. Bummer. What I did take a picture of was this hilarious fries backpack. There was a pizza one, too. No taco backpack, though ☹️

Oh, and I bought my first Kat Von D beauty product. I'm not sure if you should be more alarmed that I bought something from Kat Von D or that I bought a beauty product. 😂  The two ladies I work with talk about makeup a lot and occasionally I'm interested and I ask questions. As you know, I'm not a makeup person so the questions are pretty minimal. But I did remember talking to them about Kat Von D's liquid lipstick (affiliate) and them telling me the two colors that would look good on me. We ended our adventure with dinner at this one place that has given us (me) not so good service twice now. I typically keep my cool, but the food doesn't always end up being stuffed in my face hole and that's a major bummer.

Sponsored | Taco Gear - Taco Apparel for the Taco Lover

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Taco Gear & Momma of Dos.
All opinions are my own.

If I told you that Momma of Dos and I met while enjoying some tacos, would you believe me? I could go on and on about her trying to get me to try these different colored salsas and then a debate over what tortilla is the best but I'd be lying. We totally didn't meet whilst enjoying tacos, although, we have had a ton of them since we've met 😂

Meet Gerald Flores, photo by DustinAshcrat.com
I see you checking out our taco gear so let's talk tacos, shirts, and Gerald, the founder of TacoCreative. He reached out to us because he saw all the tacos we eat and how we can't stop talking about them. Gerald loves tacos as much as we do so we figured this was a fantastical opportunity for us to be BFF's! Gerald runs a one man show over at TacoGear. He's been a graphic designer for the last 10 years and of course a taco lover since birth. He can and actually does eat tacos almost every day for breakfast (my favorite), lunch, and dinner. I'm so jealous! One day, while looking for a taco shirt, the idea to start his own apparel hit him like a ton of bricks! The idea came mostly from not finding a well-designed taco shirt. He says most of them were overdone jokes with bad designs so as a designer and lifelong taco lover, he launched his own taco apparel company.

He told me (and it stuck with me) that in today's market, it's so easy to launch a shirt design or online e-commerce business. And I totally believe him! I mean, I've wanted to design my own shirts since I was in the fourth grade and we screen printed some shirts in Girl's Scouts 😂 But I just haven't had the guts to do it. Gerald said I could pick his brain anytime so one of these days, Shankasaurus might surprise y'all with some sweet shirts! Enough about me, let's get back to Gerald. He used to be an amateur magician which makes him smile and makes me giggle! He performed for many years at private events and held semi-annual productions at his local theaters. Oh, yeah, did I mention he's from the Lone Star State? Yup, he's from Corpus Christi and part of the Texas Taco Council. Yes, this is totally a thing! Texas Taco Council has a book coming out in September. Preorder here now and get $5 off!

Something else Gerald said that stuck with me was his favorite motto, "Write down every single idea you ever have. If it's not a genius idea now, it might be later." How perfect is that for me to hear, you know, a paper lover who likes to jot random things down?

Fun fact about Gerald: He has a huge passion for collecting custom-designed playing cards. He currently has over 300 different desk designs that come from all over the world. This passion sparked an idea for him that he's hoping will happen late this year/early next year so definitely follow Taco Creative's networks to see it first!

The last thing we talked about that completely sealed the BFF-ness was when I asked him what his favorite taco was and he said... drumroll, please... Tacos al-freaking Pastor, my ALL time favorite! He said as perfect as these tacos are, they mean nothing if the tortilla is not good. The tortilla makes the entire taco and I couldn't agree with him more. He tops off his taco with some delicious salsa and the trifecta is amazing!

It's not just shirts that Gerald has in his TacoGear apparel. He has cell phone cases, hats, bags, tanks and even onesies!

Gerald is such an awesome taco BFF that he's hooking you up with a discount on your first purchase over at TacoGear.com Use code: houstontaco at checkout to get a 10% off your purchase. Expires 09/21/2016 (end of Summer). AND, he's offered to give away a TacoGear t-shirt to one of my lucky readers! YAS!!! Weekend Snapshots | 29

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by the 8th Wonder Brewery container tagged with Brewston on it. This weekend I visited three Houston breweries, but I didn't have beer at all three. 😩 You know what I could have done without, though? The crazy freaking heat. I've sweated more this weekend than I have in my entire lifetime. I'm totally exaggerating, but you get what I mean.

FRIDAY NIGHT | It's been about a month since I've been on a bike. The last ride I went on was #EastSideBikeRide Graffiti Ride in June where E and I broke off with some friends and ended up needing to be saved by John. Read about that adventure here. That's also the weekend I did my first and only spin class which makes me feel like I totally gave up/forgot about cycling. Thankfully, East End Bike Ride came through again and I got to redeem myself. No, really. We did 28ish miles starting at 7PM and we didn't get home till about 1:30PM. I was freaking exhausted.

The start is always at D&W on the East Side. First stop was Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company, which I'd never been to or heard of. The line was massive for beer so I didn't get to try it. The second and last stop was City Acre Brewing Co. So before I continue let me tell you a bit about us and this ride. This is our third or fourth ride with ESBR. The last ride we did (mentioned above) we had to break off because we were starving but the plan was to follow all the way through with this ride. E got a flat somewhere between the first and second stop and of course when he yelled at me, I didn't hear it, so I kept on going. It wasn't until we got to a light that I checked my cell and saw that he'd gotten a flat and would catch up later. So I basically rode by myself for a good chunk of miles of this ride. Yeah, I'm pretty damn proud of myself. Get this, though. E got to the last stop before any of us did and ordered food and drinks. Maybe we should always do this so that there's a guaranteed spot to sit with food and drinks haha! Check out those tacos (second pic) from City Acre Brewing. Freaking ah-mazing!

SATURDAY | There are no pictures of Saturday because it was laundry day and errand day LOL! E went on a ride with friends that took almost all day and I woke up late because I barely survived Friday's ride haha! I bought this new gadget that arrived Saturday and I'm really excitamated to share with y'all. Thing is, I haven't been able to make it work properly, yet! Will tell ya more about it once I get it to cooperate with me.

SUNDAY |  We woke up early to get some miles in before #DJScrewDay at 8th Wonder Brewery. We met John there at 8:30AM and rode to get breakfast. The place we wanted was closed even though Google told us it opened at 8 so we ended up going somewhere else. Luckily, we stumbled across a place called Double Trouble Caffeine & Cocktails with the Doughmaker Doughnuts truck sitting outside. We hit them both up and even got a dollar off all of our orders from the Doughmaker for being on bikes! #winning After breakfast, we rushed back to 8th Wonder to get in line. We waited 45 minutes for out glass and beer and it was totally worth it. We drank, met new people, laughed and overall had a fantastical time. I also got the chance to meet Donkeeboy and take a picture with him. The picture came out blurry but E took a few of us chit chatting so that's the one I posted haha! First 300 people were given a screw to put in the interactive art piece and I was thrilled to be a part of it.

It was a beautiful day but the heat was ridiculous! I drank three beers and didn't feel them. I'm guessing it was all the sweat that helped me on that 😂 We hung out at 8th Wonder for a bit and then rode to Axelrad/Luigi's Pizzeria for our favorite pizza and then it started raining. Rain in the Summer of Houston means it's practically a sauna. Kind of how it is today since it just rained. I'm sure you can imagine we were completely drenched in sweat by the time we got back in our truck to head home.

Weekend Snapshots | 28

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by a beautiful Friday sunset on the lake. I know that lately it's been more Weekend Snapshots posts than anything else but I'm planning on making it up this month with some fun new posts. I'm working with a couple brands that I absolutely adore. Plus, this month's #ThePaperFiles giveaway with Onix J Healthy Living will be awesome so please stick around!

SATURDAY THURSDAY | My short vacation and weekend started Thursday so we shall start there. Some crazy shizzle happened at work (of course it did) so I didn't leave as early as I planned to. By the time I got home, E & our friends were packed up and ready to hit the road for our mini vacation away from the crazy that is adulthood. Thanks to my tardiness, we didn't arrive at our destination in Kingsland until 1AM. Not that big of a deal because we typically like driving there at night. Less folks to deal with on the road, yanno? We did stop at Buc-ee's for potty breaks and snacks, though. I mean, it's a must according to E.

FRIDAY | We woke up late. Duh! We hit up the grocery store, ate some sammiches, and put our bathing suits on. Margaritas were made, pool was clean, and the weather was perfect! We were really excitamated because another couple would be joining us soon. With such busy lives, it can be a bit difficult to keep up with those you consider friends. Hell, most of the time they are considered familia. With good things happening to us all in our lives, it was the perfect time to enjoy some time together.

SATURDAY | According to my husband, I was awaken by the smell of frijoles coming from the AC vent that hit me directly in the face. Okay, so I totally remember sniffing the air while I had my eyes closed. What can I say, I freaking love food. Plus, Vince was making it and dude can put it down in the kitchen. I'm sad I didn't get a picture of my tacos because they were unreal but I did get a picture of the food before it was on my plate. My breakfast tacos are typically not very big, not this time, though. I made it a point to fill them bad boys up and didn't leave anything behind haha!

While hanging out on the dock and eventually getting into the lake, we saw lots of boats go by with 4-legged kiddos. That definitely put a big smile on my face. There was one that had like six labs on it. The happy look on their faces was priceless! After having lots of fun in the lake & the pool, Vince hooked us up with big ass steaks and baked potatoes! Yum doesn't even cut it, y'all!

SUNDAY | The day our mini vaca came to an end. 🙁 After cleaning up and making sure we had everything packed, we left for Houston. But not before we stopped at Whataburger 😍

Weekend Snapshots | 27

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by Leana Little & our red barn. Nothing special about this picture. I followed her around the backyard for some good shots and this was the outcome, haha! I typically follow Finnashit around but he thinks he's fancy and didn't want to be out in the heat. Smh.

SATURDAY |  I woke up early and hit up two of my favorite thrift stores. It would have been three but for some reason one of them was closed -shrugs- I bought a cute 12-piece plate set for $10 and laughed at tons of other things I found. Sometimes you find more junk than you do good shit but it's still an adventure.

After the thrifting adventure, I went off to find graffiti around the city. I ended up in areas that were new to me in Houston and others that were far too familiar. I took tons of pictures but I was too lazy to edit them this weekend. Yeah, I know.. three day weekend and no editing? It was a very laid back weekend for me. Seems like these three-day weekends end up with me not doing a damn thing. Not even biking. I'm not comfortable riding my bike by myself nor am I even able to get it out of the hooks on the garage ceiling. So yeah, there's that. 😂

Another first for me this weekend was finally trying Tout Suite. I've heard so much about it and have seen it all over my Instagram feed that I added it to my Wunderlist. (Wunderlist is an app that also works on your browser, that lets you make lists for different things going on in your life. I have a list of places I want to visit in Houston. It's helped me discover places like Space Montrose and Tout Suite.) So I stopped by TS and ordered Huevos Rancheros+Mimosa+Macarons! Yes, I get down like that! I really enjoyed the environment and the service. Everyone was pretty nice and helpful and y'all know how important food customer service is for me! Speaking of, I had a bad experience at another restaurant Sunday that made E & I walk the hell out of there. More on that in a bit..

SUNDAY | Tis was a lazy Sunday for me. I did some house chores and caught up on some Wayward Pines and that was about it. E & I went to try out a restaurant that I've been meaning to hit up because tacos but it most definitely did not get our money because it lacked service. Had the place been super packed, I would have understood but it was not packed and I made eye contact with the waiters multiple times. We ended up walking out and heading over to Chuy's, which has my favorite strawberry margaritas!! I don't know what it is about them there but they are amazing! That last dish after the cut is NOT mine. It's what my fatty husband decided to order which ended up as leftover because we don't say no to enchiladas in our casa!

Nothing was done on Monday. The entire weekend was packed with crazy loud noises from fireworks and the kiddos were just not having it. Remi takes out his frustration on the KONG, Finnashit follows me around, Leana trembles like crazy, Jay sleeps it away, and Chula doesn't give a shit as long as she gets to be on top of me at all times. The life of a Dog Mama, haha!

Congratulations to Roxy from Grrfeisty for winning #ThePaperFiles June Giveaway with me, Momma of Dos, & Coppelia. Stay tuned for this month's giveaway with Jihane!
