Weekend Snapshots | 22

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by two journals, a book and my ban.do agenda. Yeah, it was one of those three-day weekends for me. I sat at home all three days and played with paper! I'm actually not all that bummed out that I didn't do anything this weekend. Yeah, ill be a short Weekend Snapshots, y'all!

SATURDAY | E went out with some kayaking homies (yeah, it goes down like that) so I slept in a bit. I planned on meeting a friend at Space Montrose since the weather on Friday evening was shit, but our plans didn't mesh well. I mean, she had plans with her familia and my ass didn't have anything concrete which was bizarre for a pretty Saturday. Mostly because I'm all Ride, Ride, Ride on the weekends since it's the only time I can. Thanks work! E & I almost hit up an Eastside Pub crawl but that felt like so much work..

I did try Bagelfuls from Einstein Bros for breakfast at home and was fairly pleased. If frozen, you're supposed to stick it in the microwave for 2 or 3 minutes but that made the bagel a little chewy. Then again, I'm terrible at following food instructions. I have a major love for Strawberries (even though they give me killer acid reflux) so I enjoyed it and plan on eating the rest real soon 😋

The kids did their usual sleep wherever the hell they want thang. I caught up on Arrow and The Flash because Superhero. I'm not a huge fan of either.. but if I had to pick it would probably be the Arrow. The acting is way better on The Flash, though LOL!

SUNDAY | My timehop showed me an image that made me smile about how we really are the movies we watch, the music we listen to, the books we read. We are every single day! We are all shaped by the things and people that surround us. Without them, we wouldn't be who we are. 100% unique to the next person.

After checking out Timehop (in bed), the Reed boys decided to show me some love by crowding the hell out of me. I couldn't not take pictures. E went on a super early bike ride so my ass didn't join in. I like bikes and all.. but I'm not at the wake up at 7AM to ride level yet. After his bike ride he did some yard work. I helped a little. Wait, was that Saturday or Sunday? Dammit, it was one of these days.

On Saturday or Sunday I worked on another Project Life spread. I really am trying to keep up and you know, do it! It's just not the same anymore.. Stay tuned this week for that post!

MONDAY | MEMORIAL DAY! The plan was to join a social ride with the rest of the squad but E woke up all types of messed up. Dude had some killer food poisoning (we think) because he was running a fever, showered like 8 times, threw up a million times and was straight up out of commission. Poor guy! Thankfully, it cleared up in the late evening. And that was it...

Before I go I want to thank those who died in the military service for our country or were injured at war. None of the shit I do daily would be available to me if it weren't for those who fight for my freedom every single day. I could never thank you enough.

Jessica and I met at a blogger conference named Blog Elevated. It was the very first one of it's kind and Jessica and I were both in the building. Jessica is an outside-of-the-box mommy & lifestyle blogger. She has colorful hair and fantastic taste in paper! She's a Wife to Dennis, Mommy to Jack, Massage therapist to clients, and my paper loving homie! Check out her blog, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for more.

Weekend Snapshots | 21

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by this amazing pizza from Luigi's Pizzeria, a super refreshing Saint Arnold's Boiler Room Raspberry, and JENGA (affiliate). I recommend all three of these things if you're ever at Axelrad!

FRIDAY | Including Friday evening because of the Elotes & Raspas ride we did. If you've never been on a social ride that consists of tasty food like elotes, raspas, pizza, or tacos.. it's important you know that unless you're riding close to the front.. you'll have no time to eat all of your food. I mean, you can have all the time in the world but when the leader starts calling out twenty minutes and then ten minutes and then five minutes.. you better inhale that shit or you'll be left behind. Being left behind is not something folks like to do in social rides so definitely be prepared.

The meet up was in downtown's historic Market Square Park that I like to call Houston's version of Central Park in NY. Okay, so you can't compare because Central Park is awesome and MSP is itty bitty but it's still a fun place to hang out at. Niko Niko's and a dog park is there so there's always folks hanging out. The ride started at 7 and E and I barely made it with work and getting our gear together. E and I represented FYHA as we usually do with our sweet shirts!

SATURDAY |  It rained off and on so riding was definitely not on the schedule enter sad face here so I went grocery shopping and E did some work on the bikes and lawn. Once the house chores were done we showered and headed to Warehouse Live & Chill for a friends birthday. We'd never been there and I'd never even been down that road so I was a bit nervous about the place. It started at 9 but we didn't make it till 10ish. We were super bummed when we were told the kitchen closed at 10 and the place closed at midnight. Super shocked that a place closed the kitchen and their place so early on a Saturday BUT after checking the place out and the location of it.. if they stayed open any later, they'd lose tons of cash. Don't get me wrong, though. I liked the place and the atmosphere (they played amazing ol' school R&B & Hip-Hop) but the kitchen is crucial for us, haha! Either way, it goes, we had a good time celebrating our friends birthday! Oh, and yes that's the birthday man in the cop car. No, he wasn't arrested but he sure is silly! It was nice to see some of the homies that I haven't seen in a while. <3

SUNDAY |  The Rain Squad met up for Sunday Streets. If you don't already know from my previous posts, Sunday Streets is an event hosted by Cigna in Houston on the last Sunday of the month. Every month a new street is closed off for walking, riding, skating and fun! It's a great way to help people stay active and enjoy themselves. We've been going for a while and I have tons of fun.

The Rain Squad is a group of four of us. E, John, Julian and me. We came up with that name from the crazy flash flood we had last month that had the four of us stuck in Lost Pines. Ever since then when we meet it rains but this time it didn't. It was actually a gorgeous day! So we took lots of pictures, saw some fantastical Houston art, ate some tacos, hung out with some of the riders from Friday and just overall had a blast!

I'd like to take a moment and tell you how freaking proud I am of myself. My record since I started riding with the guys has been 15 miles and I think it's only happened once or twice. All the other rides have been cut because of the weather so I've never made it to 20. Not Sunday though. I was determined to make it to at least 20 miles.

On Sunday, I made it to not just 20 but twenty-freaking-six miles! YES! Shankasaurus is a G! Ok, let me calm down cause that was too much. Not to mention the crazy sore muscles I'm walking around with today, haha! Yeah, I'm far from a G!! Still though, I'm pretty proud of myself and hope to keep it going!

STAY TUNED: A giveaway and a review of some pretty stuff!

Weekend Snapshots | 20

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by the colorful wall at Biscuit Home located at 1435 Westheimer Rd in between Yupon and Mulberry. It's the closest colorful wall we had to the side of town we were in. It would have been nice to check out the Sugar and Cloth wall on Canal St but that was a ways out there and it actually started raining ten minutes after we finished taking pictures. Talk about good timing, huh? 😀

SATURDAY | Mama Carrizo worked for Mama's Day so she made us promise we would spend all day with her on Saturday. No problem for me since all we do is shop and eat.. mostly eat 😂 I started my Saturday by stopping at Small Cakes- A Cupcakery on Grand Parkway on my way to Mama Carrizo's. I bought four, took some pics, chit chatted with the lady on how they bake twice a day! It smelled SO glorious in there. There are a few storefronts around Houston so definitely check them out!

I picked up Mama Carrizo and my sister and off we went to explore the Market at Sawyer Yards. I found out about this event on Facebook like I usually find events and I figured it would be fun to change it up and shop local. Not to mention the artists would be present and mingling with them is always interesting to me. This event will return on the 2nd Saturday of August and beginning September, the market will take place every Saturday! It's a great place to shop local, meet artists and have a fantastical day!

At the Market at Sawyer Yards I purchased a unique art print by Marsha Glickman. It should be of no surprise that it was a Texas art print, this one to be exact. I fell in love with the words on the right and although I'm not a big gun person, I thought the guns on the left were very unique. After chatting with her I learned that she made the guns out of paper mache and took the words on the right from headlines of a newspaper (that I can't remember the name of). The original work was sold for who knows how much and she made art prints to continue sharing it with folks. We walked around a bit and I had a chance to take a picture of the cowboy lighting his ciggerette again. I swear it's one of my favorite pieces and it's probably because it's so Texas (or at least to me it is 😀)

We left there to go visit the Beer Can House. It was something my sister thought of and since none of us had been there, it was an adventure we were willing to check out. More on that in a separate post. Our next stop was the Biscuit wall, one that I've been wanting to visit. We pulled out the selfie stick and went in on the pictures... as you can see below. I didn't add all of them because they are mostly funny to us and I don't want to bore you. Last stop of the day was Space Montrose. My second visit and their first. I bought some more pins and Mama Carrizo bought some stuff, too. We rushed home after that because of the flash flood warning and because we were pretty hungry. On my ride home, I chose to take HWY 6 which is one of the roads that have been closed since last month due to the flood. I took a few pics of the water to show you exactly how high it actually is. The new says it's been closed down again thanks to the rain we've been getting since Saturday evening. 😭

When I got home, E told me about his bike adventure and how sandy everything was. His bike was covered in sand.. and his phone case had sand in the weirdest crevices, haha! The plan was to go to sleep early because we had an early bike ride to do so we hung out in bed for a while. Below you'll see Finnashit hugging my leg as he naps on our bed. He's such a little shit, but he's such a sweetheart! 😍

SUNDAY |  E and our friend John had an early bike ride with some folks and decided to cut it short by meeting me in downtown for the Sunday Spinn bike ride. We did our usual bike ride selfie with the usual thumbs up that cracks me up every time and off we went. I loved this ride a lot and would have loved it even more if the damn rain didn't cut it short. Safety first, yanno. I did beat my record, though. Not that it was a big record but it was meaningful to me! We stopped at Axelrad for pizza and beer again. Yes, we bought the Mexicana pizza because pizza! We ended our day with a visit to Chuy's for their fantastical strawberry margaritas and creamy jalapeno sauce! We were in bed by 9 because that's what old people do and apparently we're old 😂

Weekend Snapshots | 19

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by three big heads and Houston's skyline. Yes, we went bike riding again and it wasn't enough for me! Thankfully it didn't rain. See, we've started calling ourselves the Rain Squad because every time the four of us ride, it rains. See Weekend Snapshots 16, where it all started 😂 We assume the reason we got lucky is because we were missing the fourth member of our squad. I guess we'll know for sure if it's us who make it rain when the four of us meet to ride again. 😀

SATURDAY |  FYHA Spring Bash was 6-9 so that meant if we wanted to ride we needed to get our shit together early enough to enjoy both. E was out helping a team of bike riders with a trail that is still pretty messed up from all the rain we've had. He got home a little later than we expected but we still made it work. We met John at FYHA headquarters and thank goodness he has a few spare bikes because E didn't have enough time to take his to the shop, again! We got there before the shindig started which is pretty meaningful for me because gasp! I was actually on time to an event. 😂 I rushed in to get my DJ Screw Pins (yes, two were purchased) and two shirts and off to ride we all went!

Before all of this, though... the pack and I were pretty lazy. We woke up late and ate breakfast while watching Grace & Frankie (see my post from last year). I swapped my basic shoe laces for Marvel shoe laces (affiliate), finally. I think we got these in a Lootcrate a while back and they've just been sitting in a drawer.

Back to our bike ride adventure. After the FYHA purchases, we got on our bikes and off we went to explore. Our first stop was Lucky's Pub Heights where we drank some Dos X and ate some noms food. I mean, check out that nacho tower, it was freaking glorious! The view of the Houston skyline was great and so was the weather. I couldn't pass up taking some shots. I used a new app on that skyline picture below. A Color Story, maybe you've heard of it? Not too many free filters but it's a nice app. I really do prefer VSCO Cam, not to mention I've been so invested in it that I have tons of filters. Our bike ride wasn't very long, but I still had fun. It was my second time riding on the street with the fellas and at one point that was pretty scary to me. So yes, pretty proud of what I'm accomplishing these days!

SUNDAY | Mama's Day meant we would be grubbing and celebrating Mama Carrizo. Unfortunately, she's had to work the last few mama's day but we make sure to always stop by and celebrate with her. This day was no different. I picked up some La Madeleine and my sister brought some gifts and tiramisu! I purchased my card from Space Montrose last month while picking up my Houston pins. We laughed, we ate and we enjoyed each others company. We also took multiple selfies with Mama Carrizo because that's kind of what you do with your family. Hope everyone had a great mama's day and celebrated the folks we consider good mama's!

Mother's Day | 2016

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

Today I'm sharing some Mother's day goodies for the late buyers. I'm 100% guilty of this as I am not finished with my gift for Mama Carrizo. I do have a card, though! I mean, of course, I do. It's paper! I considered doing an all small business gift guide, but I realize not everyone is in Houston but I did add one small shop from the H to my list. Before I continue I just want to let you know that shopping at these big companies is good, but it's even more fulfilling when it's purchased at a small local store so definitely consider looking into that. Also, I know Houston has small market shops or little flea markets full of small business vendors. Maybe your city has something similar this weekend and you can find your Mama something sweet on Saturday.

ONE | Hello Trinket. I've always liked the idea of a trinket for jewelry or in my case, my chapstick and flash drives that I carry in my pocket almost daily. Mama Carrizo would love something like this as a reminder that she's beautiful and a quick place to put her daily delicate earrings.

TWO | Rifle Paper Co. Floral Pouch. I'm a big fan of Rifle Paper.. paper goodies but never really looked into their pouches. As a female, I know Mama Carrizo will enjoy this pouch or any other for the million and one things she carries in her purse.

THREE | Lush Bath Goodies. If you are not familiar with Lush products, please make sure you pick something up for yourself. I have super sensitive skin, as does Mama Carrizo, and the goodies here are so natural and light that I have no problems. The link I used above sends you to their Mother's Day section where they have six gifts sets (ranging from $21.95-$59.95) that will satisfy any mama. I am actually hitting them up after work today to get one for Mama Carrizo. Shhh!

FOUR | Ban.do Agendas. Paper is a great gift for Mama's like mine. I think I was born with this crazy paper obsession because of Mama Carrizo. She has tons of journals and pens so I know she'd really enjoy the colorful agendas from Ban.do. These won't arrive in time if you order today, but it's the thought that counts and I'm sure your Mama will be happy nonetheless. Ban.do agendas now come in three different sizes- Small $20 (5.125x8.125), Medium $28 (6.5x8) and Large $32 (8x10) in a 17 month agenda. Yup, I totally ordered one for myself and two for two of my Mama homies. Mama Carrizo already has one!

FIVE |  Greeting Card. Do not forget to pick up a lovely card for your mama. Sometimes a card and some flowers will do. Or a card and some food. These three are from Space Montrose, a store in Houston that I recently visited a few weeks ago. It's a small and local place full of so many different handcrafted goodies. Considering hitting them up this evening as well!

Have a fantastical weekend celebrating whoever
the Mama figure in your life is!
We all have at least one.. some of us quite a few!

See you Monday with a recap of my weekend with Weekend Snapshots!

Weekend Snapshots | 18

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by this handsome kiddo we met at Axelrad in Midtown called Jax. You know I say hello to dogs before humans so becoming homies with this kid wasn't anything out of the ordinary for me. Note: Always ask the owner before you say hello to a strange dog. It's the polite thing to do.

SATURDAY | We started the weekend with E's birthday celebration. We invited quite a few folks, but a lot were busy so we weren't sure there would be a good turn out. Thankfully, it was a great turn out with some homies we haven't seen in a bit, some new ones and then the regular ol' gang of bike riders! Oh yes, I'm totally part of a bike squad now. I mean, they might not admit to it but I know it's true. 😁 So the plan was to meet at 8th Wonder Brewery and do some riding if the weather permitted. According to our meteorologists, it was going to rain all day. I truly believe our rain radars have been drunk because ever since our terrible flood mid last month, the weather has been super strange.

I tried the oh, so famous Haterade beer from 8th Wonder and really need you to understand that it is one of the worst beers I've ever tried in my LIFE! Ask for a sample, but don't waste a beer token on it (I actually had someone swap my Haterate for a different one). I stuck to Dome Faux'M and tried Alternate Universe which wasn't too bad either. The food truck there was the Intergalactic Food Truck by the Eastie Boys. Definitely inhaled the tasty fries there. Not just ANY kind of fries but WAFFLE freaking fries!! And more than the 5 that ChickfilA gives 😂

Okay, so if you've never been, 8th Wonder is $15 for a glass and three tokens or $10 with your own 8th Wonder glass & three tokens. Lots of indoor seating, tons of outdoor seating, adult seesaw thang and some games. Not too much shade outside, though, thankfully one of our friends found an umbrella and then everyone and their mama followed our lead haha! Speaking of mama's, Mama Carrizo joined us for some beer, fries, and laughs! She also took the group picture below of all of us. Pretty impressive, huh? Haha!

After 8th Wonder, six of us jumped on our bikes and went for a ride. We didn't have a plan other than we needed to end at 8th Wonder cause that's where our cars were and we weren't done with our tokens! Around 3:30 we left and hit up Cecil's PubSaint Dane's, Axelrad's and back to 8th Wonder around 9ish or so. We ate an amazing pizza at Luigi's Pizzeria located next to Axelrad's. I never would have thought of putting pico de gallo on my favorite dish but it was ah-mazing! We played some Cards against Humanity (affiliate) and I've gotta say that taking your shirt off is definitely not a guarantee that you'll get laid. Being a motherfucking sorcerer definitely does it, though!

SUNDAY | We woke up late and enjoyed the usual cuddle session with the boys. They're getting a little too comfortable with Sunday morning cuddles and it might be time for them to forget all about it or get a bigger bed. 😔 One of our bike squad members went to IHOP with his family and sent us a picture. That made me crave crepes so off we went the two of us!

Sunday consisted of E doing some yard work while I worked on fixing my website. Looks nice, right? I bought this template from Carrie Loves a while back and haven't had the chance to play with it. Definitely hit Carrie up for fantastical blog work! She's my favorite & she's super nice!
