Weekend Snapshots | 47

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by the delicious Pan de Jamon that Jihane's dad made for our Friendsgiving lunch this weekend! It was the first time I've ver had it and although I'm not quite sure of all of it's ingredients, I can definitely say it was nomtastic!

FRIDAY |  I met up with the HLB admin team for an event with LEVO and then we went for some tasty dinner. We lead such busy lives that it's hard for us to be available at the same time so we have to take advantage of the time we have sometimes. Margaritas were a must and the chisme was also present. It's nice to mingle with ladies that have the same culture as you but different backgrounds. I consider myself a great listener so learning more about these ladies has been a priority to me. Mainly because it's not just HLB that keeps us connected but it's our friendship as well. One that I hope we have for a very long time.

I received my Whataburger tumbler (also available in Stainless Steel only) Thursday night so of course, I pimped it for my #fridayshirtsteez along with my Whataburger shirt 😍 It's the most expensive cup I've ever purchased and even though I told Mama Carrizo I was ashamed of how much I spent, I'm so happy and proud to pimp it. Plus, it helps me drink more water since I'm not that big a fan of it.

SATURDAY | Baby showers at my age are part of the norm. Just like weddings. And occasional kid birthdays. Of course, my gifts would include some of the goodies that the mama to be put on her list as well as some #smallbiz goodies from Space Montrose. I've been there so many times and always walk by the baby clothes because there's no one in my life that has kids so why even stop? And I'm not trying to get that baby fever, yanno? I'm not even 100% sure that kids are in my future. I like them and would love to have at least one, but kids are forever and I can barely handle myself 😏

I wish I could say I gave her the pink Texas shirt and little cowgirl booties but I didn't. Instead, I went with a handmade Texas bib, some washable throw-up towels, and a cute believe in yourself shirt. I had a lot of fun and mingled with folks I haven't seen in a while. See, life gets complicated when you get older and you just don't have the same amount of downtime with the homies.

SUNDAY | Friendsgiving Lunch at Jihane's casa was tasty! Mama Carrizo made us some Argentinian empanadas and off I went on my hour drive to Jihane's. Haha! Lots of tasty food with a lot of amazing people. I met some of my friend's kiddos and their hubbies. It sounds strange but typically it's just the gals, yanno, so of course, we don't know the rest of their familia.

We also celebrated Jihane's son Sean's 11th birthday. Y'all know I made a fuss about not having a Chewbacca mask or the blue light up bracelet so Jihane hooked me up. I mean, I'm kind of the size of these kids, so why not take advantage, right? 😁

I'm grateful for these ladies and everyone else who takes the time out of their day to see how I'm doing or ask me for some help. Aside from being a good listener, I love to help those I care about. Whether it be with their social networks, to their phones not working, to asking me if they should wear Black chucks or Red chucks. The only way this shit works is if when I need something, they're there for me as well. Friendships don't work unless you do. Hell, relationships don't work unless you do.

The Paper Files | November Giveaway

Today’s #ThePaperFiles is brought to you by swear words. My favorite! 😍One thing I'm sure you've learned about me is that I like to curse. A lot! And I'm totally okay with it. I understand that some folks frown on it, and that's totally okay, too. I'm all about being me so if you keep your distance from me, I won't hate ya for it. I will giggle about it, though. 😁

I discovered Swearywords.com through Facebook, I think. A friend must have liked the fan page or a post and it popped up on my feed. Curse words always catch my attention so I checked it out. By the end of that day, I had signed up for the newsletter, received my FREE downloads, and printed them. Yes, if you sign up for the newsletter you get a ton of downloads. Who isn't into free shit? I mean, look at the "art" I created below. Bullshit has always been one of my favorite words.. but with a British accent. Weird, I know. πŸ˜†

I signed up to receive alerts for new posts on the Swearybook Facebook page so when I heard James Alexander was working on a new book, I got super excited! He had some issues releasing it on Amazon for the price he wanted but in the end, we all paid $4.19 for one. I wasn't surprised to see that some folks had purchased a couple of books instead of one.. mostly because I purchased three πŸ˜€ Yes, I totally had the idea to give away one or two because of how entertained I felt coloring the above picture!

Enter to win this coloring book and some coloring pencils below because what's a coloring book without the coloring tools, right?

Get your very own Shit Happens Swearybook over on Amazon (affiliate) or get the previous book, Release Your Anger (affiliate). Check out the rest of James Alexander's books on Amazon (affiliate). There are quite a few under $10 and then some masterpieces at a bit higher but I'm sure they're still worth it!

Good luck!

Weekend Snapshots | 46

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by this lovely cow cup I found at HomeGoods. Isn't it cute? 😍 I've been drinking my sweet milk tea in some Transformers cup but recently changed it up. So when I saw this cup, I knew I couldn't pass it up! The nipples hold the cup up, y'all! πŸ˜‚ I don't know where or why it happened but I've become super infauated with cows lately. Weird, I know!

SATURDAY | I met up with Jihane and her son at Traders Village. Traders Village is like a flea market where you pay $4 to park and get in. This is also where I adopted my babygirl, Jay. The food is always legit there and so are the little shops. This weekend was special because the 27th annual Native American Powwow was happening. We arrived a bit early with the idea of finding good parking and a good spot to watch but I think everyone else had the same idea, haha!

The pictures don't show how intense the event was. I mean, it gave me chills! The prayer at the beginning, the dancing, the singing, and watching the kiddos all dressed up was amazing! We walked around and checked out all of the Native American goods and had some great convo's with a lot of them. We ate a machete which is like a big ass taco and it was yums! It was a great experience and I can't wait for next years Powwow!

SUNDAY | I met up with a friend for breakfast at IHOP. It's been a while since I've been there for my strawberry crepes so I'm sure you can imagine my excitement. Went home and watched some House of Lies (I'm playing catch up) and then it was bath time for my kiddos. I got a new showerhead and Finnashit totally approves of it! I love how his hair looks after he's bathed and a bit dry. His hair is so freaking soft and cuddly, haha!

Afterwards, I began a scrapbook stash clean out. I have SO much shit and it can be overwhelming when trying to create so I've gotta get rid of it. I'm planning on selling a few boxes of mixed scarpbook stuff so stay tuned for that. Hopefully I can get it done some time this week.

Weekend Snapshots | 45

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by the box of Halloween goodies I have. Yeah, that's right. I said the box because it's my only one and it's not even full. 😩  I'm working on it, though, I swear! I hope this doesn't mean I love Halloween any less because it's definitely one of my favorite holidays! Anyways, Halloween goodies are all down until next year and it's a bit sad but next year will be a new year!

FRIDAY | Met up with some friends. We had a plan to watch some flamenco dance but then that was canceled so we ended up hitting a small bar in our favorite area of Houston, Montrose. The Rice Box food truck fed us that evening with some delicious dumplings. These friends of mine are the type that you can go without seeing or talking and when you meet up again.. you don't skip a beat. It's really good to have those friends! For the record, I ate those dumplings fast and burned myself so that's why there's no picture. Also, I picked up Whataburger before I went home. Yes, I totally used my app!

SATURDAY | Met up with Jihane in the Heights for the First Saturday Arts Market. I've been to a few markets and always enjoy the atmosphere. It's basically an outdoor market with small biz people and their crafts. Jewelry, photos, clothes, crystals, artwork, bags. You name it and it can be found at a market.

Before we walked the market, though, we stopped at Arepa Station food truck for an ah-mazing Reine Pepiada! I had never had one but it really was a memorable experience. It's essentially a chicken salad arepa sammich with avocado slices on top. I love chicken salad and I love arepas! Perfect combo, haha!

SUNDAY | BeVisible & Houston Latina Bloggers worked on a positive body image event held at the Thinking Girls Boutique. It was such an experience, as most of our events are. I met some ladies IRL that I've known for a while online. I also got the chance to hear two ladies, Dr. Eliza from TRSWC of Houston and Ana from Power to Prevail, speak about how to manage issues with our bodies. I think it's an important subject especially now that we're had some people in the spotlight discuss our value and what not.

Aside from the speakers, we also did a vision board workshop, ate some snacks, and did some giveaways! Speaking of giveaways 😜  I won a sweet handmade Ecuadorian tote with a story by Kollek. The info on the website says, inspired by an icon in the city of Quito-Ecuador, with its flowers and colors.  It's beautiful which helped me understand why I received some bad looks when they called my name! Haha, kidding!

I finished the weekend by doing some grocery shopping, which included buying a Houstonia magazine. I had a sub for two years and I missed the stories. It also rained like crazy on my side of town. Walking to the car with grocery bags (because I'm a dummy and I put the cart up) in a crazy rain storm was not fun. But thinking of the snacks I would eat when I got home totally cheered me up... as they always do!

Dia de los Muertos | 2016

Are you familiar with Dia de los Muertos? It's a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico on November 1st and 2nd. Of course, it's not only in Mexico as Mexicans live all over the world and have brought this beautiful holiday to all sorts of different countries. As an Argentinian-American who has taken in so many different cultures (muchos thanks to Houston for all the diversity it allowed me to grow up with), I too celebrate Dia de los Muertos

This isn't a holiday filled solely of painted faces and bright colors. This is about tradition and culture and what it means to honor the deceased. People build private (or sometimes public) altars called ofrendas by using sugar skulls, marigolds, the deceased favorite foods & beverages, along with pictures or their belongings. It's quite an experience to make one for a loved one as well as visit other altars. It's all about helping support the spiritual journey of those we love and miss dearly.

I'm pretty sure I've shared the picture at the top of this post before and I'll probably continue to do so since it's one of my favorites. This picture was taken a few years ago when I had the pleasure of visiting Noches de Altares in beautiful Santa Ana, CA. See more here. I didn't get a chance to visit Dia de los Muertos altars in Houston this year which makes me super bummed. Good news is the interwebs loves to share so I've been oooohing and ahhhing at the creative and love-filled altars folks have made for their loved ones!

This year I made my very first altar for someone who still has a grip on my heart. My baby girl, Jay, who passed away in August. Find altars by using the hashtag #ofrendas on networks like Instagram and Twitter. I also found some good pictures on Flickr. To see my Santa Ana album (2011), go here, and to see my Lawndale Art Center album (2010), go here.

I've never made a dΓa de los muertos altar but I thought making my first one for my girl would be good for our souls 😊even if it may seem silly to some 😬 I added things like her ashes & collar, a painted skull, two candles (guardian angel & la virgencita), her paw print made by our vet's office ❤️, a #chingona sticker (@sewbonita) that represents her well ☺️, two @furrybones (a duck & a bat), a picture of us on our last day, a picture of pizza cause Jay LOVED pizza crust (courtesy of @dominos), and a water bowl on an @heb #diadelosmuertos plate. . Waterworks are in full effect 😩#jaylaboxer has been gone for a little over two months and it still feels like yesterday when we said our goodbyes. Rest In Peace, baby girl, till we meet again. 😘 #thatarilife #reedtasticpups #diadelosmuertosaltar #dayofthedead

What does this holiday mean to me? Although I was raised Catholic, I don't consider myself a religious person. I'm not all that spiritual either (trying to learn more on this), but I do believe in souls and helping them find peace. I did my altar for my girl because I want her soul to find peace whether she's still here on earth by my side or in puppy heaven somewhere. I also want to show her that she's on my mind and that I love her. I guess everyone has their own reasoning but this one is mine.

Momma of Dos made an altar for her family. See it here. Modern Tejana has a post up with links to books that can help your kids learn more about this holiday. See it here. Visit my Dia de los Muertos Pinterest board here.

Lawndale Art Center in Houston (4912 Main) will have their Dia de los Muertos exhibit up until November 5th. Visit their site here for more information.

East End Gallery in Houston (708C Telephone Rd) had a Calavera Procession last Friday. They also have their own exhibit that you don't want to miss this. The closing reception is Friday the 4th. Visit their site here for more information.

Weekend Snapshots | 44

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by Finnashit and his visit to the vet's office. He became BFF's with all the humans he interacted with and was very attentive to the commands his mama gave him. The way he acts sometimes makes me think we're blood. He can be stubborn like me and so freaking friendly with strangers, like me. Haha!

SATURDAY | Visited the vet with the turd nugget. There a lot of pictures of our ride there because I can't get enough of his cuteness. When the vet walked in she looked at him and said, "OMG, what kind of pup are you with those long legs and crazy hair." I laughed cause everyone kind of says the same thing when they see him. I told her how folks keep telling me to get his hair cut and how I just can't bring myself to do it. I mean, what if his hair doesn't grow the same? What will I do without my Swiffer pup?

Incase you're wondering, nothing was wrong with the kid. We went for some vaccines and to get more info on a grill cleaning. When you eat turds (and anything else you can find) daily, your mouth will get yucky and since he's an affectionate kid.. the grill must be cleaned in order to kiss on me.

I met up with Mama Carrizo and my sister for some shopping and grub! We hit up our usual places and found some really sweet deals. One of the things we saw at Kirklands that I think I'll have to go back for was a cow canvas. I don't know what my fascination is but it could be the crazy ears and the big ol' snout they have but it's something I want in my casa! We ate at an Italian place in Sugar Land and although the grub was legit, the service could have been a bit better. Which was surprising cause Mama Carrizo and I had been there before and loved the service.

SUNDAY |  Chill day. Finished some laundry, bathed the kids, moved some shit around in my room, and studied. Yup, I enrolled in an online course that I hope to pass with flying colors. More on that a little later when I'm a bit more comfy with the class. It's sooooo much reading and even though I love to read, it's definitely not all that interesting. Ha!

I ran out of the tea I typically use for my sweet milk tea but I found a decaffeinated kind in the pantry so I tried that. Loved it mucho more since caffeine kills my head. That may be another reason why I don't do coffee. 😬 Don't judge me! Anyways, I drank it in my new glass TX mug I got at HomeGoods.. or was it Marshall's? Ah, who cares. They both take alllll my money. 😭

Weekend Snapshots | 43

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by some books I was recently gifted by one of my biggest cheerleaders. I'm sure I don't have to go into detail on how important it is to have a good support system in the bad AND good times, right? Books are Soar by June Cotner, Good things are happening journal by Lauren Hom, and Read this till you believe it by M. H. Clark (links are affiliated).

SATURDAY | I slept in big time. I don't mean like till 10 or noon. I mean like until 1:30. Last week had been rough on me and I couldn't get to bed before midnight. That means I needed a major recharge of my batteries. After waking up and being a bit lazy with the kiddos (see Finnashit & his sister being super lazy below), I got up and started doing things around the casa.

I stopped by Target for some goodies and found Bullseye, the Target kiddo, was feeling the Halloween spirit as he stood over the dollar area! Which btw, I didn't get any pictures but there are a ton of Halloween stuff for all ages! Yup, I totally bought some!

I also stopped by Space Montrose, you know it's my favorite, for some Houston graphic tees they posted about recently on Facebook and to see Genevieve Santos who was doing live drawings. I totally would have got one of me but there were some cute little families waiting so I bought a cute AF pin and a sticker from Genevieve instead! Stopped by the greeting cards section cause it always cracks me up. There are some really sarcastic people out there, haha!

SUNDAY | I met up with the HLB admin team at the delicious Maryam's Cafe in the Heights. I'm not 100% sure they let pups inside, but I know they have water bowls outside and I found a doggie section in the menu!

Our meet up was to discuss adding a new member to our admin team. But before that even happened, breakfast was order and served! The grub was legit! but it's a bit pricey and the place can get a bit packed! We talked a bit more about our mission with HLB and where we want to focus our energy in this coming year. We had a fantastical first year and I think this second year is going to be mucho fun filled with a ton of new experience! Check out that last shot. The three of us wore graphic shirts without even discussing it, haha!

The Paper Files | October Giveaway w/ Bre

Today’s #ThePaperFiles is brought to you by friendship. Paper love friendships! I admit that when Bre and I met up at the Paper Source for this giveaway, we couldn't come up with a theme for the month (Halloween theme could have worked if this giveaway was earlier in the month 😬 ) so we decided on just going with the flow and not having a theme. But after taking the picture of the card above and checking out the rest of the goodies, I'm considering making this month's theme.. Friendship & Paper! 😁

Bre and I met on the interwebs through her blog and our acceptance of being nerds. Paper is definitely one of those nerdy things and Bre loves paper as much as I do so our friendship grew from there! This is Bre's second paper giveaway with me and also it's her birthday month. Yes, go harass her on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. The plan was similar to the one from earlier this year. We walk around once for the giveaway and once for us πŸ˜‰  After our first roundabout, we decided to walk over to Barnes & Nobles to check out their Moleskine (affiliate) notebooks and the rest of the paper goods. We made our purchase and went back to Paper Source where we made our final purchase 😜  Last but definitely not least, we stopped at Sweets for tasty treats and a sweet milk tea!

Back to theme.. so the card is obviously in reference to your closest friend. I think the goods we purchased for this giveaway meet them perfectly as it's somewhat of a complete paper starter set with a little positivity! Check out the goods below!

Number Uno: Fortune dispenser by Knock Knock (affiliate) - 100 tickets

Number Dos: Adjustable book pocket with zipper - Black - 8-1/2" x 6" - Perfect for writing goods & paperclips

Number Tres: Ban.do sticky note set (affiliate) - 8 different notes

Number Cuatro: Up, Up, and Away journal - 160 lined pages - Elastic band - Back pocket

Number Cinco: You my sidekick for life greeting card by Jolly Awesome - Blank inside

Number Seis: Ban.do compliment pencils (affiliate) - 10

Weekend Snapshots | 42

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by this delicious slider I had at the Cadillac Fashion show on Saturday. I've never been to a fashion show so there were a lot of ooh's and ahh's from me. Thanks to Jihane for the sweet invite to this event and for getting to drive a freaking Cadillac in style!

FRIDAY | Yup, I went to the "Crazy Reality" Tim Burton tribute art exhibit, again! And, I'm not ashamed to admit it.  I was there for two reasons. Get a specific print and find out how much a different piece cost. The print I had to have because I couldn't stop thinking about is this one by Sarah Parallel (double tap photo to see Sarah's IG) which is a metallic print! I must find it a badass frame immediately! The piece I wanted to price check was the colorful, paint splattered Oogie Boogie (affiliate) from A Nightmare before Christmas (affiliate). Sadly, it was sold so the price made no difference to me. But just so you know, it was $100 😬

Check out the seven prints I came home with that really, really need frames. Like, legit frames not that cheap shit because these creative prints are worth being in a unique frame. See more of the work from this exhibit on my Flickr album here.

SATURDAY | I met up with Bre at the Paper Source for #ThePaperFiles giveaway purchase. We walked the place and then we walked over to Barnes & Nobles. It was hot and it was far, but we made it πŸ˜‚  After walking around there, we made some purchases and back to the Paper Source we went. We made another purchase and then hit up Sweets because duh! and we called it a day. That giveaway post should be up this week if my procrastination doesn't get the best of me.

I met Jihane and a few ladies in Midtown where we checked in and were given a choice of a Cadillac to drive. The ladies weren't interested so of course, I volunteered because I love to drive. Especially a Cadillac Escalade! It had my attention from the moment I jumped in the driver seat. The marketing rep that rode shotgun told us a bit about the new 2017 Cadillac Escalade and we (or maybe just me) drooled. I was geeking out hard at all the things she told me were in the car I was driving. Like for instance, there's a cooler in the freaking armrest! The rearview mirror flips into a damn HD screen showing you five full lanes behind you. Five, y'all! That's super impressive to me. Oh, and a portion of the dashboard reflects on the front window so you don't have to look down. Not that you wouldn't want to look down because the fully digital dash is so beautiful to look at that I may have wiped a tear from my eye. Haha, enough about the caddies. I swear I'm not affiliated with them but the cars are honestly beautiful in every way. Ok, maybe not the price but that's a whole other conversation.

The fashion show, food, people, and music were great! We used a video booth with props that made a video of us in slow-mo as we threw confetti in the air. Lots of laughs on that one, haha! We sat on the third row from the side of the runway and caught a local HLB member sitting on the other side with her husband. Waved and then met up during the intermission. For my first fashion show adventure, I've gotta say I had a fantastical time with great folks! Thanks again Jihane for the invite and Cadillac for the fun evening!

SUNDAY | A much needed rest day happened. I've been doing something almost every weekend for a month and chores needed to happen. And not just basic chores, it was heavy duty cleaning time. After cleaning I worked on getting rid of shit I no longer use or care for. I filled up a massive trash bag with crap I should have trashed sooner and packed five other bags of shit for goodwill. Caught up on some more TV shows and called it a night with some delicious enchiladas verdes!

Weekend Snapshots | 41

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by a replica of the bejeweled relic Saint Felix that we found in the back of the Magic Garden at the Texas Renaissance Festival. That's right, I finally visited the Texas Renfest. I've lived in Texas since I was about five years old and never visited the Renfest. Thankfully, I have legit freaking homies and Jessica hooked me up with some passes for the first weekend. Of course, I took homies like Jihane, her son and brother, and my sister. All who have already visited at least once.

SATURDAY | I started the weekend with Jihane and her kiddo at the East End Gallery for the "Crazy Reality" Tim Burton tribute art exhibit. We are both big fans of Tim Burton and his awesome movies so this was a big deal for us. My favorite was, of course, Nightmare before Christmas and Batman! But I loved how creative all the artists were with their designs. We spoke to the curator and she told us it took her a few years to pull this show off mainly because she had to locate the artists. I figured it was all Houston artists, but she surprised the hell out of me when she said it was worldwide artists who reached out and asked to join this show. As usual, I bought three prints because I'm all about helping the little guy/gal, plus, I couldn't walk away empty handed with so much creativity around me!

This exhibit started October 7th and ends October 22nd. If you haven't already been, please, go check it out soon because it really is a great exhibit with so many good pieces! The days left are October 14th 6pm - 9pm, October 15th 1pm - 6pm (*Kids day), October 18th 12pm - 7pm, October 21st 6pm - 9pm, October 22nd 7pm - 11pm (*closing). Visit their site and their Instagram for more!

Afterwards, we ate at Bohemo's next door and headed towards the Heights for some antique shopping. Not that we were going to buy, cause we're poor Latina's πŸ˜‚ but it doesn't hurt to look. We stopped at AG Antiques on 19th & I loved it! We saw lots of cool shit that I wanted to take home but couldn't so I did the next best thing. Took pictures of it, haha! Visit my Flickr album for more pictures! And then we needed a snack to continue functioning so we went next door to Maryam's Cafe. I can't remember exactly what my drink was called but it was AMAZING. It had pineapple in it and some banana and some other noms!

SUNDAY | Texas Renfest happened and I loved it. It was a big deal that we stayed till the end so that we could see the fire dances and the fireworks. I can't tell you how happy I am that we stayed because the show was so freaking cool! We ate a German burger, chips, and funnel cake because you can't go to a fest and not have funnel cakes. Am I right? LOL!

I've got some sweet video of Dennis (Jessica's husband) doing some demo's for us but I don't have it edited yet. You can totally hear my excitement and nerdiness in the videos and it cracks me up! Will work on that later and post it! Check out the rest of the videos on the Flickr album here!

I tried to keep the chatter to a minimum because there a crapload of pictures below but y'all know how much I love to talk, haha!

Weekend Snapshots | 40

Taken by my sister, Gaby

Today's #WeekendSnapshots is brought to you by the sweet skies and the beach condo we stayed at in Galveston Island, Texas. In recent years I haven't visited much but it's mostly been because the water creeps me out. This weekend was no different as my scary ass did not get in the water. Thankfully there was a pool and two jacuzzi's at the beach condo so I enjoyed some time there.

FRIDAY | The ladies and I (Mama Carrizo & my sister) have been working hard on not letting our PCB tan go away. So, of course, we set up a trip to our closest beach, Galveston Island. We left work, packed the truck, and off to another Boluda vacation we went. I was excited because my sister and I might sleep on bunk beds and I don't really think I've ever slept in bunk beds as a kid. Turned out the room we got had two rooms and then the bunk beds. I chose to sleep with Mama Carrizo as I usually do so the bunk beds were untouched. We stayed at the Seascape Rentals far west towards the state park and loved how peaceful it was. Not to mention the service was on point!

The moment we arrived it felt like our problems/stress disappeared. We were all smiles and I loved it. I guess that's the reason why vacations are so important. They allow us to relax and think about the now rather than the shit we have to get done for work or whatever else might be demanding in our lives. We arrived late so we picked up some pizza and called it a night.

SATURDAY | I started my morning with a beautiful view of the beach. Granted, Galveston's beach isn't the prettiest I've seen but just hearing the waves and seeing the sky makes it beautiful to me. We stayed on the top floor so our view was pretty sweet! We tanned it up as usual but it was somewhat of a cloudy day so we were a bit bummed. We left the beach early to head towards downtown where sometimes they have live bands. Plus, the stores down there are cute! We visited Gracie's & Bungalow Dry Goods in downtown on our last visit and loved all the goodies so we stopped there again. We did some more walking and saw that there wasn't a live band but they were playing Labyrinth on a big blow up screen. We watched a bit of it from afar and then headed towards food because hungry! We stopped at Fisherman's Wharf Seafood Grill and even though our table was dark AF, we had a great time. I ate the best-fried tilapia and rice I've ever had in my life with a super cold Saint Arnold's Lawnmower while my mama had the same thing but grilled and my sister had some crab concoction, haha!

SUNDAY | We woke up early to make sure we got some sun in. The day started off a bit cloudy but it slowly cleared up and the tanning began. It was also very windy this weekend but I think it had something to do with the cold front we had come in. It made the sun bearable so no complaints from us. I started to feel a little crappy after we checked out so I fell asleep in the sun, haha!

We went on a walk on the seawall and checked out some souvenir shops where I saw the turquoise sign below which I thought was cute. Mama Carrizo also posed for us on a bench and we took selfies, as usual. We then visited Beachtown which is far east and were shocked at how clean the beach was in that area. But we were bummed that even if we wanted, we couldn't post up there due to their being no bathrooms. What's the point of a public beach if there's nowhere to do #1 & #2 if you are inclined to do so? ☹

On our way home, we stopped at Zoe's Kitchen for dinner and our weekend ended. As usual, I'm happy to have these two ladies in my life. Not only for these Boluda vacations but for the support they provide me with and the million laughs! ❤

Today’s #ThePaperFiles is brought to you by this silly little notebook. It's part of September's giveaway in this series, plus mucho more! If you're a list maker, this book would work perfectly for you and it doesn't just have to be for your to-do lists. What I like about this notebook is that each page is perforated so if I had to tear a sheet out, the page wouldn't look crappy from yanking it through the spiral ring! Back to the lists, I read a post over on The Bitchy Business Briefs where Sharon shared her list of five things that are not on her list. We should all have a list or two of things we are not going to do. Her list has No TV on it and No Ironing. I can totally back up the no ironing, but I'm not sure I can let go of TV πŸ˜‚  I did let go of cable a few years back, though! Haha!

For September's giveaway, I teamed up with Anel from Lestage & Co! Anel is a Latina mama to three, wifey, Designer & children Photographer. Ah, and she's a paperhead! Anel and I have known each other for a little under a year as we met through the Houston Latina Bloggers gracias HLB! From becoming friends on the interwebs to seeing what she shared or showed love to, I learned that she was a paperhead, too! So, of course, I had to send her a message and ask if she was down to join me in this months #ThePaperFiles! Find out more about Anel by following her design Facebook, Lestage & Co. and her photography Instagram!

On to what you're really here for, haha! Below are some goodies that Anel & I liked for this month's giveaway! Picture heavy, as usual!

Number Uno: A cute To-Do Kraft notebook - 6" x 4-1/2" - Perforated pages - Lined pages

Number Dos: 2 sheets of stickers by SN@P - One page with words & one page with stickers resembling washi tape

Weekend Snapshots | 39

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by The Shack Burger Resorts unfinished restroom deco. I imagine if they continue up the wall, it'll be a sweet finished project! Aside from this wall, something else that stood out to me in this bathroom was how clean it smelled. It's not something you run into everyday in public restrooms, yanno πŸ˜©

FRIDAY | I rarely include Friday but I'm including it because Finnashit and I took a cute picture on the couch and as a proud dog mama, I must share it 😍 I worked half a day because I was still feeling crappy from the teeth extractions I had Wednesday. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook (shameless plug πŸ˜‰), you'd know that I had a killer clean on my grill and removed my last two wisdom teeth on the left side of my grill. Doc gave me like 16 shots inside my mouth, y'all 😟 But I survived it even though I still can't chew properly and I'm getting these killer headaches, I'm glad I got this done. I wonder if I'm dumber, though, since I have no wisdom teeth πŸ˜‚

SATURDAY | I met up with the lovely Jihane and her kid, Sean, at Canyon Creek Cafe for Frito pie. If you're not familiar with Jihane, she was born in England and raised a little there and Venezuela. So she's a British Latina and yes she has the accent. In English, not Spanish like some folks think, haha! Anyways, she's been living in Houston for 6 or so years and there are plenty of nomtastic foods that she hasn't had a chance to try. One of them beingFritoo pie and since Anthony Bourdain mentioned it in a show she was watching, she decided to give it a try. So we ate and chatted and of course I had breakfast tacos. It looks awfully good but it wasn't the best I've ever had. On a happier note, the fruit was on point!

Afterwards, none of us were ready to go home so I introduced them to Space Montrose, one of my favorite artisan stores in the H! (Read more about my visits here, herehere, and here.) The best part of this store is obviously the goodies for sale but what I enjoy the most is how friendly the staff is. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you are greeted or you'll hear a have a great day! Y'all know I'm a stickler for good customer service so this place makes me smile! We bought some goodies and then off we went to our casas. On the way home, I saw a wall with some art and snapped a shot because art!!

When I got home I checked the mail to be surprised with more snailmail! I swear the TacoGear and SewBonita folks are the bestest! Not only am I supporting small businesses by showing them love & buying from them, but I've gained the owners as friends and for that I am grateful! Thank you Elena and Gerald for being awesome folks!! So my package came with the sweet taco bag I bought from TacoGear made by SewBonita and a ton of stickers because it makes my paperlovinghead happy! Oh, and a taco lover pin! Ah, I love these people!!

SUNDAY | Woke up early to take a ride north to Conroe for some bike races. Got some donuts to fill my facehole because nothing can be done with a cranky Shankasaurus! Spent pretty much all day taking pictures and recording some cool stunts on what is used as a BMX track but for this day it was just regular ol' racing! Bought a tostada from the food truck and was highly disappointed with it. It's like this weekend didn't provide me with great tasting food but maybe a lot of it may have been due to my mouth not feeling 100%.

Rain was threatening us all day but it didn't show up until the ride home. Storm clouds always amaze me so of course I take pictures of it. This one is pretty trippy and even more so when you're driving towards it. Dinner was at The Shack Burger Resort and I was not disappointed. Granted I didn't eat the entire burger but what I did eat was amazing. I had the Fireman burger and was so hungry (since my tostada sucked) that I didn't even take a picture! The burger had fried freaking pickles, y'all! Haysoos!! Ended up taking half home for Monday's dinner, haha! Gotta think ahead y'all!

Stay tuned for another post today with #ThePaperFiles giveaway!

The Paper Files | Pipsticks

Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post nor was I asked to do a review.
No compensation received by brand but there are affiliate links in this post.
Today’s #ThePaperFiles is brought to you by the wonderful folks at Pipsticks (affiliate)! Don't know what Pipsticks is? Here's some info taken from their website.. Pipsticks is a company found on the idea that little things can make a big difference. We know that little things that are cool and serve a purpose - even if that purpose is unadulterated fun - can rock your world and save your day. We are IN LOVE with stickers and understand their power to make you smile. We don't stand for ugly or lame and work hard to bring you simple and fun. We promise that your Pipsticks experience will be touched by happy and helpful people.

I've known about Pipsticks for a few weeks now but didn't make the plunge until last week. The reason why I finally did it was because they were celebrating two years spreading the sticker love and I knew I had to be a part of it. And I'm so glad I signed up because I got my goodies this past Monday. I was having a crappy Monday due to some bad news and opening my mailbox and seeing these goods totally put a smile on my face. And for that, I am super grateful!

Maureen is the head honcho of Pipsticks and has a story that most of us sticker lovers can relate to. This is what a part of the about page says about herAs the head honcho of Pipsticks, I know my stickers. Growing up, I walked with my parents to our neighborhood gift store once a week where they let me choose one square of stickers. This square was cut from the many rolls hanging on the wall, packaged in a glassine bag and carefully carried home to join my collection in The Sticker Book. I lived for it.

I know technically these aren't considered paper but they're in the paper world. What would paper be without stickers, right? I remember as a kid I had a few albums full of stickers and it was a huge deal to me. Today, as a 32-year-old, I still have sticker books that I won't use because I don't want to 'waste' them. Strange how the hoarder brain works, right?

It's my understanding that because it was their two-year celebration, they threw in more goodies for everyone. That means that I'm not really sure what the usual packs look like but I think the quality of these unique stickers is definitely on point. From the envelope the goodies come in, to the cute letter (seen above), details are a priority for these folks & you won't regret signing up.

Below are some pictures of my pack and the info so you can join in, too!

Weekend Snapshots | 38

Today's Weekend Snapshots is brought to you by a flying BMXer at this year's HTX Bike Fest in Downtown Houston. We expected it to be hot but the sun was not playing Saturday and made sure we knew it. By the time I was done and in my car, I was drenched in sweat. It was worth it, though!

SATURDAY | I received my Sewbonita goodies on Friday! A Chismosa shirt in red and a Chingona iPhone case because small biz is my shizzle and the owner, Elena, is a fantastical human! So since I had these goodies, I knew I had to wear them on my Saturday outing!

I hit up the HTX Bike Fest at Market Square Park in Downtown Houston. I should have bought a Sewbonita or TacoCreative hat because the sun was ALLLLLL in our faces. I was super duper hot and drenched in sweat, I can only imagine how the vendors were feeling. 😩 It looked like a great turn out, though. From the vendors to the folks attending and boy were their smiles everywhere. Oh, and lots of pups were out there with their humans!

After the bike fest, I rushed to Tout Suite in Memorial City Mall for a sweet milk tea and some sweets. Now that I've made my own sweet milk tea, I like mine way better, but I'll still stop for the sweets, haha! I walked over to Target on a search for TMNT goodies for Connie's son's 7th birthday. I didn't plan on spending much but I sure did walk out with a $70 receipt. Target did it to me, again. πŸ™

Off to the birthday shindig I went. I'm mad that the HLB co-founders and I didn't get a selfie. Jihane, her son Sean and I went in on some grub since we got their early. We don't play when it comes to being hungry, yanno? Haha!

SUNDAY |  House chores! I like to get them done Friday night since I'm not a big going out person or Sunday. This week turned out to be Sunday since I went out Friday. I cleaned the casa, did some laundry, watched some more Ray Donovan and then it was play time. Play time to me is sitting in front of my Mac. πŸ˜€ I pulled out my Silhouette (affiliate) from hibernation and started to work on something. Yvonne, an HLB member, recently started doing some t-shirt designs and totally motivated me to try it. I've had my machine for a few years and haven't made too many projects but I'm determined to change that! Stay tuned for some t-shirts (affiliate) I'm making. I swear you'll crack up, haha!

One Month Without Her

Our last day together ❤
Today marks one month since I had to say see you later to my best friend who crossed the rainbow bridge after being by my side for ten years. This feeling I've had inside since she's been gone is like no other. I've had furkids pass away in the past, in fact about two years ago I had my oldest furkid pass away. And although it did hurt and every time I looked at her daughter for the following months I was incredibly sad, the pain was nothing like the one I've been feeling for Jay.

Weekend Snapshots | 37

Today's #WeekendSnapshots 37 is brought to you by my visit to the movies on Sunday! Before I get into my weekend, I'd like to take the opportunity to do a little dance in celebration of my procrastinating ass finally coming back into the blogosphere! I went on a ten-day vacation with Mama Carrizo and my sister and had a freaking blast. I hope to have those pictures edited and uploaded soon. No promise on dates, though!

SATURDAY |  Mama Carrizo, my sister and I discussed going to Galveston Island in hopes of getting more sun to keep our tan but nothing was set in stone. Until Mama Carrizo said, "Yeah, we're going to the beach Saturday to spend the day but before that, you and your sister are going to the dentist." I'm sure you can imagine the look on our faces but whatever Mama says, goes. I figured if we had some serious work done, we wouldn't be going anywhere but that was definitely not the case.

My sister got some shit done and then I got some X-Ray's done. I'd like to announce that I'm pretty damn proud of myself and my grill. Doc said I have no cavities! I do need to go in for a deep cleaning, have two wisdom teefs pulled and possibly braces. Again! I knew when I had two of my wisdom teeth pulled on the same side that my teeth would move but nooooo, that dentist thought it would all work out fine. I've gotta make sure my trademark grill is pretty, y'all, so I'll be getting work done very soon.

After our almost four-hour visit to the dentist, our drive to Galveston started. I think since we spent ten days in Panama City Beach that we are totally beach snobs now ! πŸ˜‚ I mean, G-Town has nada on PCB, but the sun is still there for that tan we wanted to continue working on. We didn't get in the water because um, you can't see shit, there's been all sorts of reports on TV lately & it's scary AF! We tanned, chatted, grubbed on some tasty empanadas they both made, and then when the sun started setting we showered and drove to downtown Galveston.

I'm working on using more film cameras than digital so that was more or so the reason behind hitting up downtown. We walked around and did a little shopping along with taking silly pictures of us! When we were done, we drove back to the seawall where we stopped at a pizza joint to grub. The beauty below is a Green Peace Pizza with tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and spinach! It was delicious!

SUNDAY | It was a super chill day! I woke up around noon and remembered that Labyrinth (affiliate) would be playing in theaters for two days at two different times for its 30th anniversary! I looked it up on my phone (while I was still in bed) and bought my ticket through Fandango. I'm an 80's baby and even though I was only two when this came out, it was one of my favs from the first time I watched it. Not to mention, it was one of those movies that I watched many, many times as a kid. I own it on DVD (affiliate), but getting a chance to watch it on the big screen was even better!

If you're a fan, the next day it'll be available is Wednesday the 14th. I reserved a seat and I sat between a child that wouldn't stop moving and a guy who smelled like he had swam in his cologne πŸ˜‚ Yeah, I went alone but I wasn't going to let either of these crazies turn me off from watching one of my childhood movies!

Side Note: How freaking cute are these Funko POP! vinyl toys of the characters in Labyrinth? Ludo is definitely my favorite, but look at Sara and worm. Then there's big headed ass Hoggle, Jared and a Hot Topic Exclusive Jared in white! (all links are affiliates),
