Today I'm sharing a Netflix Original- Grace & Frankie featuring Lily Tomlin & Jane Fonda. Once again, Netflix came through with another show with 13 episodes that will leave you highly entertained. Grace & Frankie is written by Marta Kauffman (co-creator of Friends) and Howard J. Morris (Home Improvement) and was available for streaming on Netflix May 9th. I finished the series last night and was left wanting mucho more! I mean, the desire to watch season two is ridiculously high!!
The story goes like this... Grace (Jane Fonda) is married to Robert (Martin Sheen) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) is married to Sol (Sam Waterson). Both husbands are successful divorce lawyers in San Diego, while Grace is retired and Frankie is a hippie art teacher. In the first episode the guys invite the ladies for dinner to reveal a truth that has been bothering them for over 20 years. The ladies on the other hand think that the guys are going to reveal that they are retiring.
The truth is Robert & Sol have been in love for 20 years and are now ready to divorce their wives, move in together and marry each other (not a spoiler, see trailer below). I appreciate what this series is doing for the world of TV & the LGBT community. It's not easy coming out to friends & family in fear of disapproval from those we care the most about. Seeing their kids support both parents is pretty damn amazing.
The cast also includes Brooklyn Decker (Just go with it) and June Diane Raphael (Ass Backwards- she's freaking hilarious) as the daughters of Grace & Robert and Ethan Embry (Can't hardly wait) and Baron Vaughn (Fairly Legal) as the sons of Frankie & Sol. Guest stars include Geoff Stults (7th Heaven), Mary Kay Place (Sweet Home Alabama), Joe Morton (Scandal), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Christine Lahti (Chicago Hope) and Craig T. Nelson (Coach).
Did you know..
- Fonda & Tomlin are both pretty upset because they found out they are being paid unfairly compared to their male co-stars. Will this ever stop happening? These ladies are the headliners of this show!! Read more on this here.
- One of my favorite movies growing up was Big Business with Lily Tomlin & Bette Midler. I watched it so many times that I knew not only the words but the silly sound affects. Another one of my favorite movies with Lily Tomlin is The Beverly Hillbillies, the words and sound affects were also memorized by my young brain. Lily has proven time & time again that comedy is something she's not only good at, but freaking great at.
So tell me, have you seen the show? What are your thoughts?
