Weekend Snapshots | 51

Today I'm sharing the last Weekend Snapshots of the year. This has been the only series I've kept up with during the year and although I'm a bit bummed that I didn't continue my Project Life.. I'm happy I kept up with this series. I was in awe at the table above, but the price made me walk away FAST! I mean, not that work wasn't put into it but I certaintly wasn't interested in paying for it. I took a picture to show E so he can make one. HA! I got jokes!!

So the holiday weekend flew by but I had a great time and Sandy Claws totally hooked me up. This makes me think I must have been good this year.. which then makes me think I must have been super bad last year, hmm. Glad he acknowledged me this year.. maybe I'll be good next year too!

Sandy Claws (sister) hooked me up with a bigger monitor for my Mac. On my last Weekend Snapshots I told you about my itty bitty monitor and some desk changes. Welp, I guess Sandy Claws noticed and didn't want my poor eyes struggling anymore. No complaints here. Sister also hooked me up with a sweet ass Houston Texans beanie (affiliate)! Mama Carrizo hooked me up with some much needed houseshoes since Finnashit likes to destroy them. E found one my new ones under the bed yesterday so I'm cautious where I leave them now. As if the turd didn't have enough toys to chew on SMH!

One of the sweetest gifts I got was a Whataburger bag full of Whataburger goodies. I mean, I am freaking LOVED, y'all! I made sure to use the Whataburger pancake mix this weekend and ahh, it was glorious!! Speaking of being loved.. are you familiar with Roofus and Kilo? Roofus and Kilo are part of a bigger pack of dogs that have a loving mama who rescues puppies with a local rescue in Oregon. They recently came out with a calendar for 2016 where all the proceeds would go to fixing their land up for new rescues. $16 for a calendar full of adorable pups is the way to go! I bought two and sent one to my friend Jessica in Austin for Christmas. I mean, who wouldn't want to help this pack and the future pups? Mine is hung up and I can't wait to start the new year with a cute face!

Sandy Claws (husband) hooked me up with the Back to the Future trilogy on Bluray and some PS4 games (& some other goodies) so I basically watched the entire trilogy during the weekend in my Wonder Woman jammies from last years Christmas <3 Yes, I watch TV with subtitles and I'll give you two valid reasons why. 1) My pack likes to bark and play fight and the noises can be a bit too loud so instead of rewinding, I just read. 2) As I've gotten older, I've had a hard time hearing.. or maybe it's not hearing but the words I hear don't always compute properly in my head (HAHA!). I guess its cause I have so much crap in there that it becomes hard for me to focus. E isn't a big fan but he's definitely gotten used to it.

On Saturday, E and I went to dinner with some friends we haven't seen in a bit. E's brother is in town and so we took advantage and made sure we all met up. Food and alcohol are always a common denominator so of course we went with BJ's Brewhouse. E and I have rotated two picture frames on the various fireplaces we've had for as long as I can remember. It's either been the fantastical Dexter Morgan or Che Guevara (both affiliates & not the exact image), but I recently told him we needed to change it up with something new and Texan like! Who knew that on my shopping adventure with Mama Carrizo and my sister yesterday, I'd find the perfect art for our fireplace! Thank you mucho Tracy Miller for your colorful and fantastical art that brings me mucho happiness! Once the Christmas deco goes away, I'll have to figure out what to do with all that empty space. Pinterest to the rescue, haha!

Lastly, you'll see a snapshot of the little boy Finnashit. This was last night while I played CODBLOPS 3 (affiliate) with my husband and a friend. It's pretty exhausting to watch your Mama play video games, yanno?

Hope you had a great weekend!

Weekend Snapshots | 50

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 50 featuring what I woke up to Saturday morning... Finn's butt! The mister cleared himself for an early Saturday bike ride so I guess Finn thought it would be cool to take his spot on the bed. Thankfully, the kid wasn't gassy.

We did the usual weekend stop at our favorite Mexican joint. We sat at the bar and watched the Rockets game which was pretty legit since we were the only ones there. I went with the usual enchiladas verdes and E did some fancy shit as he occasionally does. I did some thrifting before all of this, see what had happened was... Last Saturday when I thought it was my last thrift of the year.. I saw an Ikea MALM 3-drawer dresser and told Mama Carrizo this past Friday. Apparently, I missed the memo that said she needed it in her life. See, Ikea no longer sells this color and she's been on the search for one to match the others in her bedroom. She made it a point to text me late Friday night to remind me to go hit up the Goodwill in hopes that it would still be there. Annnnndd she also text me early Saturday morning to remind me to go early LOL! Lucky for her, the dresser wasn't purchased which surprised the hell out of me. After inspecting it a bit more I noticed there was something missing but it could be easily fixed or ignored (which is what I would have done) so it wasn't a bad deal.

Another win of this run was a glass patio table I found at a very reasonable price. Patio chairs and maybe an umbrella are next. I found some cute Christmas decorations and two sweet monitor riser thangs (affiliate) that I couldn't pass up on. I'm not ashamed to admit I currently have a 21" monitor on two dictionaries. No, wait, it's a dictionary and a thesaurus. I love books but I haven't opened either of those in years.. guess now I can go ahead and donate them. To cover the books I used some scrap paper and folded it over the books. Wasn't the best looking set up, but it worked for me. See below for the black & white version as the before and the color version as the now!!

Yesterday I met up with some blogger homies for a Friendsmas! We each bought a gift and then we picked names while we chit chatted and brunched it up. It's such a cool feeling to connect with folks online and then build a long, lasting relationship with them in real life. Quite a few of my good friends now are people I met online and clicked with. Then theres the really good friends that I've known for a really long time online that I've actually never met. Some folks say I'm crazy.. but it's these online homies that keep me sane.. or maybe they convince me that I am sane? Haha! I ordered the house eggs benedict and drank OJ as if I didn't know it would give me heartburn half an hour later Sigh.

We swapped gifts and took our pictures as we talked about our personal lives and how our Christmas shopping was coming along. It wasn't until Jihane mentioned it that I noticed something in the pictures I took. Three out of five of us had written our names and ended it with a smiley face. How funny that the three of them are Aries ladies, me included! What are the odds of that? Or is it something in our sign that makes us want to smile or make others smile? Enter dramatic music here.

Hope you had a great weekend!

End of the year Thrift Finds

Today I'm sharing some of the goodies I found thrifting last weekend. It's been quite a while for me and I'm pretty bummed about it. There aren't as many sweet thrift stores where I live or maybe I haven't been paying attention -shrugs- I was supposed to shop for some things at Target on Saturday but decided to go with Amazon when I remembered the craziness that the holidays bring to retail. I can't handle stores during regular days, there was no way I could handle it during Christmas. Folks are down right rude and greedy during Christmas. SMH.

Instead of hitting up Target with the crazies, I hit up the Goodwill in hopes that it wouldn't be packed and I was right! I can't remember the last time I shopped for clothes at a thrift store. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I physically shopped for clothes period, haha! I'm a huge online shopper so unless it's gifted, chances are I'm buying my clothes online... think Vinted and small businesses in Houston.

Since I'm not looking at clothes/shoes/purses, I spend most of my time looking at home decor stuff. Tall glasses and picture frames are what I'm mostly looking for. I don't drink coffee and we barely have mugs at home, but I couldn't pass up on the Coca-Cola bear from '96. Especially since it was 25 cents! I remember loving the commercials and thinking the bears were so freaking cute! Mugs also work for hot cocoa which E loves!

I came across four Mickey Mouse glasses and after doing some online research, I found out they were sold at McDonald's back in 2000. No clue how much they were selling for but I got four for $2. The price was right so in my basket they went! Peter Pan glass was also added to my basket because it reminded me of how much fun we had at the Peter Pan show we went to in September and because Tink is a badass! 50 cents and in my basket it went!

The last thing I found and had to have was a cupcake picture holder. Mostly because it reminded me of one of the ladies in my squad, Marilla from CupcakeRehab.com. But also because cupcakes are cute and it was in good shape. For $2.50, it also went into my basket!

Weekend Snapshots | 49

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 49, brought to you by my silly husband E. We went to his company luah themed Christmas party. I'm not sure who picks these themes, but it's definitely entertaining. E did not arrive this way. He arrived nicely dressed as you'll see in the pics below but when we found out there wasn't much competition.. we stepped our luah game up! More on this later..

HLB is celebrating the 12 days of Christmas with a fun picture challenge. We've had a great turn out with some really creative photos. I'm normally no good at these type of challenges cause I either forget or I can't figure out how to work that specific day's prompt. But I'm doing great this year with three photos posted on my Instagram. Since we started this on the weekend, I included two of my pictures on this post. One is my fav Starbucks drink with a Christmas lights necklace that Mama Carrizo hooked me up with and the second is of the top part of our tree. Follow @houstonlatinabloggers or our hashtags #hlblove #hlbnetwork for more pics and join in on the fun!

So like I said above, we went to the Christmas party looking all nice & spiffy! I put on makeup AND heels. Gasp!! I wore heels cause my new pants were too long. I mean, I could have gone ol' school and stapled them, but I'm an adult now yanno! So on to the competition. There were some folks who had Hawaiian shirts on or beach attire, but no one dressed as legit as my husband. Winner would get a Destiny PS4 so that was a major motivator. We used a table hula skirt (wrapped around him a few times) and a lot of Leis. E folded up his pants to reveal Deadpool socks (best part) and we used a tank top from the gift store. It all came together so fast!! A coconut bra would have completely sold the outfit but we're not that creative LOL!

There was a Proud Wife moment when the PS4 was handed to him. And even prouder when he walked over and gave it to me. LOL!!!!! So yes ladies and gentlemen, I am the proud owner of a white PS4 at the expense of a few laughs and a few dollars thrown at my husband. For the record.. I did not buckle the PS4 in Fancy's back seat.. I save that for my true love. Whataburger!

Last snapshot is of a quote I thought was spot on for how we all live our lives. We should start appreciating everything that is put in our path because it's all done for a reason. You cannot grow without these experiences. Appreciate everything and everyone.

Last year's Christmas party shenanigans can be found here and the year before that can be found here.

Sponsored | Glorious Bluetooth LG Headset from AT&T

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. I received this product from AT&T. All opinions are my own.

I have a 2013 Audi and I love her to pieces (not so much the note, haha)! But, there's one thing she doesn't have that bums me out and you're probably going to laugh at me about it. Bluetooth! Yeah, yeah I know #firstworldproblems but seriously how can a 2013 "luxury car" not come with Bluetooth? It baffles me, haha! I won't get into the details of her purchase and how we weren't fully satisfied because what's done is done and she's been really good to me. But no Bluetooth? Come on, man!

Casa de Reed | Christmas 2015

Today I'm sharing the new ornaments at Casa de Reed for Christmas this year. E and I have a deal every year where we go to our nearest Hallmark and buy one ornament each. It's never an easy task, but it's fun & reminds us of when we were little and could only get one toy. Last year we failed and bought three, but they were so worth it. Our Christmas booties are from Kohl's. We couldn't have just two of them, we had to include the dog pack. Even Fancy has one! Mama Carrizo and I tried finding an F for Finn and they either never made them or they sold out entirely too fast so Finn got a dog print on his! Oh, and do you recognize the bear on the far right? It's an ol' school Coca-Cola bear with his windbreaker jacket and shades, Haha!!I

We usually put up the tree and a few Sandy Claws around the Living Room & Kitchen. We rarely do any holiday decorating in our rooms. This is our second Christmas at Casa de Reed and due to E's recent bike accident, we most likely won't be putting any lights outside. Although, I did see a badass blow up dog with lights at Home Depot the other day... but shelling out tons of cash for a "decoration" definitely isn't in my budget. I much rather use my money for gifts and food!!

So this year I went Christmas tree shopping with Mama Carrizo and my sister at At Home (previously known as Garden Ridge) and bought a few ornaments. The fantastical aroma in this store when I walk in brings back childhood memories of Mama Carrizo and I shopping for random holidays. It definitely put a big smile on my face! We went off to look for a tree and I ran into some gold lettered ornaments. Our tree is decorated with a gold ribbon (no picture, sorry) and blue balls (admit it, you giggled) so I thought these letters would be great. I bought an E and an A and really wanted an R, but no luck. I found a lonely Family Guy box and when I turned it over I saw Peter! Naked while holding a box. Idk if it's related to the SNL skit with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg "D*ck in a box" but it was too damn funny to pass up.

At Trudy's Hallmark, our closest Hallmark, I went with a Batman from the itty bittys collection because Batman! I almost bought the Keepsake Batman, but this one was too cute to pass up. He's itty bitty and shiny, literally fits in the palm of my hand! E had a difficult time figuring out which one he wanted. The options were the Top Gun Keepsake Ornament and the Wall-E Keepsake Ornament. Had we pulled the adult card, we would have bought both but we were trying to stick to our tradition. After trying to work on this crucial adult decision, E picked Wall-E. And I'm so glad he did, Wall-E is such a cutie and he even has the little plant with him!

The presets on the pictures below are all over the place, but see what had happened was... LOL! I signed up for Adobe CC and playing with the presets has been mucho fun! If you use Lightroom Presets, which are your favorite? I'm slightly obsessed with it right now and going to look into learning how to use Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. Wish me luck!

Weekend 47 but really 48

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 48 (but really 47), brought to you by my crazy eyes and a purple Christmas tree that I put on my head. Not exactly sure where the idea to put it on my head came from.. but it was probably cause I was bored and ready to go.

Before I continue I wanted to speak about being MIA last week. The day after Thanksgiving, Mama Carrizo was rushed to the hospital by my sister. If you've followed me for a while (or know me IRL), you'll know that Mama Carrizo is my mama & my BFF. Waking up to a call letting me know she is being rushed to the hospital was a feeling I've never had in my life. The good news is she was released late the next day and she's going to be just fine. Whew! That same day, E hurt himself pretty bad riding his bike on some trails near our home. Thankfully, he's recovered nicely and will be fine as well. So I guess you could say I was kind of out of it last week with too many things rushing my mind. But I'm good now!

Back in November, 8th Wonder brewery held a tribute to the late DJ Screw and I missed it. Completely bummed me out but I was able to purchase a piece of that event. Donkee Boy made an art piece that allowed folks to screw in a screw. The piece was so nice that they even had beer glasses with the design on it. I would have purchased a few of those had I gone to the event, but I heard they sold out fast. DJ Screw fans are legit! I ended up purchasing a shirt with the art piece that Donkee Boy created and it's fantastical! I wore it for the first time Saturday and even did an OOTD. Yeah, who would have thought that Shankasaurus would ever do an OOTD, haha! I'd offer the link so you could buy your own shirt, but they are also sold out! But he has other shirts and paintings for sale that you might be interested in so definitely hit him up here!

I went Christmas tree shopping with Mama Carrizo and my sister Saturday at what we thought was Garden Ridge, but it's now called At Home. I really need to give my sister a nickname so it's not just 'sister', haha! My sister and I act silly most of the time to try to embarrass Mama Carrizo, but the things we do rarely affect her. If anything, she starts laughing hysterically and then we get a bit embarrassed, LOL! My sister finally found something with her first initial. Her name is Gaby and she's always bummed that mom and I are able to find things with the letter A and S. Now ask me if she bought it... nope! Then again, I don't think I would have bought it either. In the fourth picture down of my sister and I, you can see Mama Carrizo mean muggin' cause that's what she does best LOL! She was probably trying to figure out wth we were doing LOL!

We hit IHOP after our Christmas adventure because food. We usually eat dinner late in our family and when we're out and about it can get a bit difficult to find fulfilling food. We typically end up at Chili's or something similar, but the taste buds weren't having any of that Saturday night. I mentioned breakfast and my sister cosigned so off to IHOP we went.

Sunday was part of a tradition that E and I have every Christmas season. We visit our local Hallmark store and pick two new ornaments for our tree. Last year we cheated and bought three because it was most necessary. This year E had a difficult time picking between Wall-E and Top Gun. Stay tuned this week for a post announcing the one we got. Funny how when I opened my Timehop that day it showed us doing the same thing last year. Guess we coincided with the dates without realizing it. Definitely putting it on my calendar for next year so we continue to go around the same date. Something that made us giggle pretty hard was the Darth Vader toaster we saw at Hallmark. We're not big Star Wars fans or otherwise we would have bought it. We seriously are big kids and have tons of toys and silly books all over our house. If we were ever to have kids, we'd have some serious cleaning up to do in the sense of putting our valuable toys out of the reach of sticky itty bitty hands, haha!

Hope you had a good weekend & Monday!

Weekend Snapshots | 46

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 46, brought to you by Finnashit. This is a shot of him staring out of our bedroom window. I've tried multiple times to take a picture of him while he peeks out the window but he's too fast for me. I made the snapshot B&W for two reasons, one cause I love B&W and two because it allows the focus to go straight to the middle where his crazy ears are. Haha!

This weekend was another lazy one for the Reed pack. I'm pretty sure I had my jammies on the entire weekend. Even when we took a trip to Whataburger yesterday. I have no shame, dammit! Whataburger wasn't going to judge me, especially since we hit the drive-thru LOL!

The first snapshot is of a filter that I used halfway on my phone camera. I'm a smoker and Camel made the plastic wrap on their box blue to use as a filter. Def not the best filter ever, but it was cool to mess around especially since my phone fit perfectly in the wrapper.

I told you we were hella lazy this weekend with E as the exception since he had to work a few hours both days. Second snapshot is of Jay sleeping on the couch pillow after she brought it down to the floor haha! She's old so I understand that she wasn't trying to get up on the couch. Bringing the pillow down so that she could lay comfortably deserves some serious props.. not really sure if she did it on purpose or if her brothers helped.

The next shot is of the little boy again. When he tears his stuffed toys, I make sure to get all the cotton and take it to Mama Carrizo so she can sew them back up. As usual, he likes to pose after a toy casuality. This was two days after Mama Carrizo had fixed his little stuffed mole. With the next shot being of him howling as he shows me how proud he is of the casuality LOL! More laziness in the next pic with Jay and Leana. And then a panoramic of the damage done to the poor stuffed mole.

Next up is my fav goodies from this months Lootcrate (affiliate). We've been members for over a year and we love it. Not that every box is legit, but sometimes the goodies are pretty cool. Like the Shredder Shades and the Hunger Games Mockingjay pin (that I will never use). The shades will most definitely be used though. Last shot is of our Whataburger drive fries. E insisted on us getting a third order of fries for our drive home. Mostly because we eat them all on the drive and don't have any for when we eat the burger. We definitely have our priorities right, right? Haha!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Sponsored | AT&T & Becky G Cover Contest

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.
I recently had the chance to attend Becky G's AT&T appearance right here in Houston. I saw her on Empire as Valentina and holy smokes, she's the polar opposite! She's down to earth and silly with an incredible amount of talent. Did you know she can rap? Yes, she totally flowed for us. It was nice to see a young, female Latina doing big things & still keeping it real. She talked to us about how she was discovered on Youtube doing cover songs. I had no idea! I also had no idea that she'll be the Yellow Ranger in the upcoming Power Rangers movie! I mean, she's doing all sorts of things!!

Weekend Snapshots | 45

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 45, brought to you by my big kid Remidog! I swear these kids have no idea how blessed they are. Don't think we don't tell them, though. We make it a point to tell them they wouldn't survive a day out in the world without us. Truth be told, Houston has a massive homeless dog issue. A very small amount get picked up by a rescue or a concerned citizen, another small amount are picked up by shelter crews (Houston doesn't have no-kill shelters so if they aren't adopted, they are euthanized) and the rest are left to fend for themselves. It's ridicously heartbreaking, but this is what happens when folks aren't educated and don't understand the real responsibilities of being a pet owner. Enough of the sad shit.. My kids are blessed and we wouldn't have it any other way.

I didn't leave my casa for much this weekend except the necessities like groceries and a new PS4 remote for yours truly. I like to do my grocery shopping early on the weekends so that I can beat the crowds but I messed up and went around 10 on a Saturday. The place was PACKED! I don't like shopping with so many folks around plus they take all the goodies I want!! My favorite part of grocery shopping besides the free food samples ha! is the organic section. My attention to detail is on one-hunnid, the colors and organizing skills speak to my obsessive soul.

Saturday night we hit up our fav Mexican joint down the street, which is where J.C. Chavez was staring me down. They have a HUGE canvas of him and my picture really did it no justice. They have another huge canvas of another guy but I can't member who it is. Another thing I did on Saturday was buy a second PS4 controller. We've had one since we bought the console last year and didn't really have a need for a second one. I bought a blue one (affiliate), of course, because that's how I roll. Thanks to the second controller, E & I got to play some Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (affiliate) together Sunday night! We haven't played like that in what seems like years so that was definitely nice.

The breakfast graphic is something we can all agree on, I think. Then again, I could eat breakfast morning, noon and night and be super happy! Some lawn work and our traditional burgers at home were also part of our weekend. I swear I look forward to Sunday because of these burgers. We used KING's Hawaiian burger buns this time instead of potato burger buns and the change was definitely worth it. Our waffle fries would be nothing without the Fancy Whataburger Ketchup which you should purchase as soon as possible haha! Overall I'd say I had a great weekend with a little productivity and a lot of relaxing!

Weekend Snapshots | 44

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 44, brought to you by the Finnashit and bath time again. Out of all the kids, he's the one who loves bath time the most. He hops right in and makes sure to stay put until I've completely soaked him. Then he shakes and gets me and everything else in the bathroom wet. I've tried so many things to keep him from going crazy, but it's a game to him so ehh.. whatevs!

Some weeks back, I bought my first Milkyway case (not an affiliate) with a rainbow drinking Unicorn. Aside from a small corner of the art chipping due to falling a few times.. the case is in great shape. It's even protected Shanks! and that's a major deal to a blogger, yanno! I'm not one of those folks who has a case for every outfit. Mainly because my attire is pretty simple.. jeans, chucks & a tee. But recently Milkyway cases sent out a coupon for the purchase of one case. I couldn't say no so I bought the donut case because duh! It arrived Friday, one day short for the second national donut day :/

I had the pleasure of joining a few friends on Saturday for a Bush's Beans tostada party! I added a few of the pictures taken with my phone from the event, but I don't want to say too much because I'd like to do a separate post on it this week so stay tuned for that. The lunch was to talk about Bush's Beans, grub on the tasty beans and discuss easy tips on food photography.

Bloggers stay busy with all sorts of events and family activities so it's nice to see my blogger friends outside of conferences and such. When we first meet, we have no time to sit and actually discuss who we are.. so events like Pilar's get together are fun and exciting. If you haven't already been to Pilar's blog, check her out. Her food adventures are ridiculously good & will make you drool.

E spent his weekend in class taking his Master Plumber's test prep. It's a sucky way to spend the weekend but it's completely worth it! If all works out (which it will, dammit) E will be a Master plumber by this time next year. This opens up ALL sorts of opportunities for him & we're both pretty excitamated about it!

Sunday felt like it came too soon. My last few weekends have felt a heck of a lot longer & it made me wish there was a pause button for Sunday. I made the SUNDAY graphic below while I was still in bed. #dontjudgeme Last shot is of Finnashit soaped up. I caught multiple blinking shots of him for some reason. Just so you know, our kids don't always get bathed on the same day. It's a pain in the ass to bathe 5 kids back to back so we switch it up and do the three little ones (including Finn) one day and then the two big kids the next. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Weekend Snapshots | 43

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 43, brought to you by E and me on Halloween. We don't have kids to go trick-or-treating with and we didn't attend any Halloween Costume parties this month so we really had no plans to do anything for Halloween night. At the last minute, E decided we should post up in our driveway and hand out candy. I'm pretty sure he used the kids as an excuse to get mucho candy. And name brand candy at that.

Our plans were to ride Critical Mass Friday night, but the weather said it would rain and it would be crappy. Guess we should have known better, because NOTHING happened. We didn't attend and then proceeded to whine and bitch about all of the people posting pictures of the ride. Which means I almost made it an entire month riding on the weekends. Saturday and Sunday were rainy and windy so that definitely didn't allow us to ride.

Last Tuesday, HEB tweeted me about my Dia de los Muertos make up from our last bike ride. They asked me to DM them my address for a surprise package. I had no idea they'd hook me up with so much Dia de los Muertos swag from their store. Bowls, plates, cups, dishes and bags with sugar skulls & beautiful bright colors! We ended up using the big bowls for the Halloween candy! Thank you again for the fantastical package HEB!

Since we didn't have costumes, we decided we'd make something out of what we had. I put on black pants, black shirt with Jack Skellington on it and my Jack hat. E put on a yellow t-shirt and the Pikachu hat we got from Lootcrate recently. We high fived & went outside enthusiastically for trick-or-treaters. We waited about half an hour for kids to storm our candy bowls. We got so bored waiting that we started eating the candy haha! We finally started seeing kids in groups and got really excited. It wasn't until they got close that we started to get a bit sad. There were tons of kids that had no costumes on or even a plastic pumpkin for candy. Back in my kiddo days, we had to have a costume or you wouldn't get candy. It taught us to follow the rules in order to enjoy the happies at the end. We also had the plastic pumpkin (or something similar) or a pillowcase for our candy. None of this plastic grocery bag crap these kiddos had. I was very sad for our youth and also pretty disappointed in the parents who chose not to walk with their kids but to have them get out of the car every time there was a house giving away candy.

The first of the month (November) started off a little weird for me. My internal alarm clock woke me up at what I thought was 9:30 AM when it was actually 8:30 AM. The boys were confused by the change as well and thought it would be best to stare at us until we got out of bed. I took my sleepy ass to Starbucks (my coworker has me hooked on the Salted Caramel Mocha Frapp with Soymilk) and then to the grocery story. It was gloomy and rainy so I didn't expect there to be a lot of folks at the store. Hallelujah for me, it was practically empty.

My ban.do planner has been patiently waiting its turn since August. But I'm not giving in. I will finish off my Kate Spade planner like I said I would... even though it's not easy. Two more months and on to the new ban.do I go. Last two snapshots are of the little boy, Finnashit. When it's wet and windy outside, we all sleep. A lot! I took quite a few of him last night, but these two were my favorites. I love how scruffy he is even though E and my mom keep telling me that he needs to go to the groomer for a trim. What if they trim and he never looks the same again? What if my Swiffer Duster kid never looks like a Swiffer Duster again? I'm not sure I could handle it.. so until I grow some huevos.. my kid will continue to be scruffy and funny looking! Deal with it!

Sponsored | Business Bestie Brunch

On Saturday, I was invited to attend the first Business Bestie Brunch in Houston held by The Marketing Chicks. This conference's mission was to motivate women in their business and give support. We're talking about 40 or so female minority entrepreneurs listening to motivational speakers, receiving powerful business messages and supporting one another. Oh, and there's brunch!

The conference was held at the Hyatt Place Houston in The Woodlands so it was a bit of a drive for me. Once there I met up with Jihane and Bre and headed inside the conference room to the smell of breakfast! After 'oohing' & 'awing' at the beautiful decorations and the cute swag bag at each table, we put our things down and headed towards the amazing smell! Our table also included Laura and Brittany, both bloggers/writers. I recently met Laura at the HLB networking event and I met Brittany at the last event The Marketing Chicks held.

Once everyone was settled with a full tummy, Nicole from The Marketing Chicks welcomed us and asked us to introduce ourselves. Standing up in front of a room of ladies I don't know makes me incredibly excited and nervous. I always expect myself to stutter or fall out of my chair while trying to stand up. LOL! It hasn't happened, thankfully, but I'm sure a lot of people feel the same. Nicole talked a bit more about what this conference was about and how sticking together (via the FB group) is a great way to support each other.

Janee V. Henderson, a life coach, was our first speaker. She asked us what our vision for our business was. She wanted it to be plain and realistic, just like our goals. Nothing outrageous so that you could accomplish it within 30 days. Sacrifices & taking risks are a big part of running your own business, which brings me to the next speaker.

Seneca Dunmore is a very accomplished female who is a great motivational speaker. She talked to us about growing up in the hood and dealing with negativity. She said that everything that is urgent is not important and everything that is important is not urgent. As soon as she said that the room started clapping and oohing. It was a powerful statement for ladies who have a hectic business & personal life that are just trying to stay sane. She mentioned our vision and how not everyone is meant to come with you. This is crucial because we have so many undercover haters in our circles that we need to learn to dismiss the folks who are no good for us. Relationships should be similar to an ATM she said. You both deposit and withdraw evenly.

Another speaker was Yesenia Serratos who shocked us with news that the gov't had grants available for any of our businesses!! She explained the difference between an LLC and a Corporation (do you know?) and how to properly register our business. She told us to network and find win/win relationships and how to grow.

Level Office explained the amazing services they offer for small businesses like a virtual office!!! This is something I never thought of. As a business you don't necessarily want to share your home address with your clients. Call up Level One and you get a virtual address starting at $50/mth and they even receive your mail. They provide private work spaces or co-working areas that include killer amenities like an espresso bar, hi-speed internet, furnished offices, open 24/7/365 and mucho mas.

Then Kirsten Berger, a makeup artist and life coach, spoke about success and how to look the part. She told us that if you're not comfortable in the way you're dressed, you can't be successful. See, this is why I wear Chucks no matter where I go. It's always been crucial for me to wear what I want since I'm not a fancy pants type of chick. She said something that stuck with me- Success is a result not a goal. You like that, huh? She told us that everyone judges everyone so deal with it. This is particularly important for folks starting a business. You shouldn't be afraid of so and so judging your or hating on you. What they do has nothing to do with you.

The happy surprise speaker for me was Kristal Howard, who is a PR agent for Kroger. I say surprise because I've seen Kristal at the BE conferences and didn't expect to see her here. She gives great tips on connecting with brands and it's always real. She doesn't beat around the bush or tell you what you might want to hear.

Overall, I'm extremely happy to have been invited and to be a part of a group of ladies that wants to grow and support each other. In the blogging world/business world it's important to have a great tribe to help with whatever you need. If you haven't already been to a conference for your business (yes, blogging is a business), I highly recommend you look into it. If you can't do conferences because they're a bit pricey for you, consider looking into becoming a member of a FB group. There are so many really good ones out there!

The Paper Files | 5 - Adult Coloring Time

Today I'm sharing my newest find in The Paper Files, the Gangsta Rap Coloring book by Aye Jay (affiliate). Folks on my FB feed have been talking about how coloring for adults is therapeutic and what not so while searching Amazon for a nicely priced and basic coloring book, I came across this book. Now there are plenty of popular books that are probably a bit better, but this one spoke to my soul.

Two stories real quick...

Recently a friend asked me if I remember when I fell in love with Hip-Hop (Brown Sugar anyone? Also an affiliate) and my thoughts rushed to when I was in 5th/6th grade jamming Tupac and Bone Thugs. I replied with that information and we moved on to another convo. Later that day the convo came back up in my head and I realized that I had replied with when I fell in love with Gangsta Rap, not Hip-Hop. I guess technically I fell for Gangsta Rap first which explains why this book spoke to my soul. Not to mention there's a lot of my favs in this book like Tupac duh!, Biggie, Scarface, E-40, Geto Boys, etc.

Second story.. I was talking to another friend yesterday about this coloring book & she asked for a picture of the inside. She said that her brother had bought her a coloring book, but that it was so freaking intricate that to color one page it took her a few days. She then sent me a picture and it was beautiful but looked like way too much work. I can be impatient when it comes to my "art" and I totally use that loosely, so those intricate books with all the lines and complications... yeah, not happening!

Back to the book, it's 50 pages of black and white images of your childhood gangsta rappers and you get to do whatever you want to them. There's a page in the beginning of some gangsta rap talk and towards the end there's another one acknowledging each of the rappers in the book.

Weekend Snapshots | 42

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 42, brought to you by bikes.. again! Yeah, I've been biking almost every weekend since Sunday Streets. My non-active ass has most definitely changed with this new hobby & I'm definitely not complaining.

This weekend started off with a sweet Cemetery Gates ride through the East Side of Houston. E and I are not familiar with this side of our city so it was crucial that our iPhone batteries stayed on point. We've heard some not so very good things about the things that happen to cyclists on the East side so we were cautious. Thankfully, the ride went smoothly and we highly enjoyed ourselves.

Everyone met at D&W and then rode out. E & I decided we would paint our faces a la Dia de los Muertos so we made sure to do our own faces in the truck before we met everyone at the bar. I've gotta say that for our first time painting our faces we didn't do so bad. Not that we weren't all busted looking but eh, we tried haha! I made sure to wear my new FYHA's shirt because duh! I love my city! (I also made it on their IG/FB, show some love & like the pic) One of E's friends was there so the three of us rode together most of the ride and at the half point we met with some more friends while we ate tacos from BoomBox Taco Truck and drank free Saint Arnold's beer. I would have taken pictures of both but see what had happened was... I was starving so pictures weren't going to happen!!

A rider went down while we were at the half point so E and I didn't finish the ride. We stayed and made sure the rider survived while paramedics rolled in. Thankfully, he will be just fine with a large amount of medical bills. A gofundme was started for him and I am amazed at how awesome the Houston bike community is. If you'd like to donate to help him out, please click here.

I woke up early to attend the Business Bestie Brunch in The Woodlands on Saturday. I was super excitamated to meet up with three of my blogger homies and meet so many inspiring women doing their thing! The brunch was delicious in SO many ways. From the mimosas to the delicious pancakes!! I'll have a recap of this event later this week!

Sunday was a pretty chill today at Casa de Reed. Mostly because of the rain, but also cause we pretty much ignored our house chores all week. Oops! We did make a run to Bicycle World for some parts for the new bike we bought. K, so it's not new but it's new for me. It will most likely replace the tank (beach cruiser) cause I need a much lighter bike to do all my crazy stunts! Yeah, I'm totally lying. I'm lucky I haven't fallen off -knocks on wood- Still looking for the perfect helmet since the one I've been using is E's old one and it really doesn't fit comfortably. I'd really like one like what the roller derby chicks wear but those aren't made for biking. The search continues..

My boys were awfully cuddly this weekend. Not sure what's going on but it's mostly Finnashit that looks for Remidog and puts his head on him. It's the cutest thing and it cracks me up since they fight over almost everything.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Sponsored | Pollo Tropical+Houston Latina Bloggers

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

Last Saturday, the Houston Latina Blogger's had its inaugural networking event. I've talked about it a few times here and mentioned it a billion times on social media. It's because it was a huge deal to me and the two ladies who founded it #sorrynotsorry Our goal has always been to empower women and help our community come together for new partnerships. This event was no different. We worked hard on getting everything in order from the moment we thought of the idea. We made connections with new brands for sponsorship & stuck to the partnership we were first given on location. It was a lot of work, but completely worth it to us. HLB wants to see you soar and if there is anything we can do to help, you can count your lucky stars that we'll be there for you!

Networking events are all about mingling. It gives you a chance to make new friends and hear their stories, plus ask for advice from seasoned bloggers/professionals. It truly is an experience like no other and if done correctly, you will walk out of there feeling inspired and really motivated to get your dream moving!!

One of our nomtastic sponsors was Pollo Tropical. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing they were. They hooked us up with way more food than we expected, but boy were we grateful. One of the things I truly love about being a Latina is how much we love food and how it's a must when we have an event. We knew we needed a local place with traditional homemade cooking for our event because it's comforting and puts massive smiles on people's faces! Pollo Tropical was very giving and hooked us up with chicken, rice, beans, salad, amazing rolls and my favorite platanos. I, of course, went crazy on the platanos!!

Pollo Tropical was so generous with their nomtastic food and we had sooooo much left over that as a true Latina, I took some home. K, so we told a lot of folks to take some home LOL! But that's another thing HLB is about, sharing and caring. If you haven't already tried Pollo Tropical, I highly recommend it and the fact that the customer service is good makes it so much better! Below is my take home plate. Okay, not a plate but a big ol' bandeja that makes me smile just thinking about it, haha!

Muchas gracias Pollo Tropical for partnering up with the Houston Latina Bloggers and giving us nomtastic food!

Weekend Snapshots | 41

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 41, brought to you by Mama Carrizo on a trike LOL! This was such a great part of my weekend! But before I get into that, let's start at the beginning..

My friend Jessica came in for the weekend from Austin to see my face and hang out with the kiddos. This was a big deal cause we've been talking about it forever! We met with some other friends Friday night at Boheme and highly enjoyed the amazing Vietnamese fries. We drank, we ate and we laughed. A lot! My kiddos loved her and either invaded her personal space (multiple times) or were leaving their hairs all over her haha!

Our first Houston Latina Bloggers event was Saturday and it was mucho fun! I mingled and laughed mucho with some inspiring ladies! My mom and sister attended along with my friend Jessica.  It was cool to see my blogger homies meet my crazy familia! It was also great to see my familia meeting the people who have been inspiring me and motivating me in all aspects of my life. We ate some delicious food from Pollo Tropical, sweet goodies from Crumble & Co (OMG, I ate my very first macaron) and drank red Wildling Wine (I stuck with water) all while hanging out at the Thinking Girls Boutique. This store is the cutest with such a fresh vibe. You'll find goodies from all sorts of artists. The store hosts events and even has classes. Our event allowed people to connect and discuss the dreams they have with their brand or business. It's exactly what Connie, Jihane and I wanted to happen. We want to help our community with their ideas and dreams. Networking events like these are how we were able to put ours together. We met people who we wanted to collaborate with, discussed some terms and BAM! there it was! We're still really excited about how the event turned out, but we have plans for so much more for our City and our Latinos. Hope you'll stick around to see it!

E put Mama Carrizo's trike together Saturday so we met up with her Sunday afternoon to ride around. It was cool to see her smile. The smile was huge and she kept giggling. She went off the trail once and the sound of fear and happiness were hilarious! We did 6 miles, but E and I think she could have done more. Gotta respect the fact that she knows her limits, though. I mean, she hasn't been on a bike in ages! E went on his regular ride Sunday morning and sent me the cool picture of his friend getting some good air. After our ride, Mama Carrizo went home and we went to our favorite Mexican joint down the street. Alcohol is amazing after a bike ride. For real.

Tons and tons of pictures below. Pictures that aren't mine are credited.

Houston Latina Bloggers | First Networking Event

A few years ago, a few blogger friends and I met up to discuss the road we wanted to take as Houston Latino Bloggers. There wasn't a group representing us & since there's so many of us, we knew something needed to be done. We typically like to meet up after conferences because we're full of ideas and so inspired. Since this meetup, we've made an FB group and have grown our numbers. We've met some really great people & connected with amazing brands!

Our founders, Connie from Momma of Dos & Jihane from OnixJihane, have been working hard behind the scenes to make the first HLB event a fantastical one. I joined them in taking care of the social media/web development side of the group and I'm stoked about it.

Our first event will be held at Alicia's beautiful place, The Thinking Girls Boutique, and will be all about networking. Mingling is the name of the game & it won't just involve bloggers and Latinos. We've invited all sorts of people to join us to make this event memorable. You know Latino's love food so of course we have some delicious noms from Pollo Tropical and some sweet goodies by Crumble & Co. Oh, and wine! Lots and lots of wine from Wildling Wine

Words from our Founders:
HLB is composed of 50+ local Latina bloggers. Our bloggers are very diverse; our topics range from fashion, entertainment and local happenings to general lifestyle, parenting, politics and technology.
We are having our first official HLB event this weekend. As a group we actually see each other on a regular basis at different events and we communicate almost daily. Our group also ranges from beginner bloggers, literally just a couple of month into it,  to those of us who are very seasoned.
Some of the writers are Bilingual who write in both Spanish and English. We work with local and nation wide campaigns to help brands/companies expand or obtain further exposure in the Latino community. Some of our blogs reach thousands all over the US and overseas, too. Our group has several stay-at-home moms and also a wide range of professionals. We have Authors and well know Social Media personalities. A lot of our bloggers are graduates with various college degrees.

We're still working on the official website & the database of the Latina bloggers in Houston, but our Instagram and Twitter are going strong and we would love for you to follow. Follow tomorrow's event with #HLBnetwork.

Weekend Snapshots | 40

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 40, brought to you by my ass on a bike trying not to die, haha! The #SundayStreets shenanigans from last week made me get off my ass again this past weekend. I've had a sweet beach cruiser for a few years now, well, technically it was Mama Carrizo's but she never used it so it was handed over to me.

On Saturday, I met two of my blogger homies at the Thinking Girls Boutique to go over last minute goodies for our event on the 17th. Connie from Momma of Dos, Jihane from @Onixjihane and I will be hosting the first Houston Latina Bloggers Networking event. It's pretty exciting and nerve wrecking but the three of us are ready for this!

Remidog did his usual window watching and then sat outside of the Kitchen with his siblings cause when we cook, no kids are allowed in the Kitchen. Except Jay cause she loves to lay on the cold tile and be in our way. I think she does it on purpose so that if we fall and have food in our hands, she wins! I wouldn't be surprised haha!

The grapes I bought the other day at Kroger are massive and I found out through my Instagram comments that apparently a lot of people got big grapes and they cannot lie. Also found out that #bluebowl has a crapload of pictures.. #sorandom.

So E & I went riding this weekend on some trail close to our casa. He made me wear a helmet that didn't fit right so getting a badass mohawk helmet is definitely in my future :) Pictures of my adventure needed to happen so that the world would believe that Shankasaurus was doing a form of exercise on a bike. See, my friends understand the depth of my laziness/mental fatness and they don't judge. BUT, if I told them I was doing something like riding a bike... eh, they start to question me so pictures happened. E actually took a crapload, but there's no need to share all that so you get one of me texting as I sit on the bike and one of me sharing the bird with you. Just so you know, we did 10 miles which I guess is impressive for someone who doesn't ride at all. My husband typically does 50+ so this wasn't shit for him. I was a bit amazed that I wasn't sore the next day and I still feel nada today. Also, you get one of E at some crazy looking bridge. He said it would be his new profile pic on FB. He lied.

Weeknd Snapshots | 39

Today I'm sharing my Weekend Snapshots 39, brought to you by #SundayStreets and the lovely people of Houston! Our weather has been exceptional these last few days and this event fell on the perfect Sunday.

Mama Carrizo, the sister and I hung out Saturday. We did the usual selfies at our favorite store and then picked a place for dinner and berry drinks!! Sunday was a very "physical" day for me LOL! E woke up early and went for his 'hit a crapload of Houston bridges' ride which ended at the Sunday Streets event. Sunday Streets celebrates Houston streets by opening them up for people to walk, skate, dance, bike or any other physical activity. Pets are encouraged. I say pets because we saw tons of dogs, but we also saw a pig!

On this particular Sunday, Washington Ave was open between Westcott and the Heights (roughly). The event is done at different areas every time. Parking is always the issue in events like this because there is no parking! So after driving around for a good spot, I met E at a shaved ice truck. We enjoyed our sweet strawberry in the shade and then when on a search for the Houston BCycle tent. Paid $5 for the bike and off we went to enjoy the day and the cool Houston folks!

Being on a bike after so long was a bit of a wake-up call. Keeping my balance on point was crucial and not having been on a bike in a while was sort of funny. It also reminded me of how much fun it can be and how amazing Houston's bike scene is.  We had a few drinks and chatted with new people. Petted tons of dogs (Heaven for me) and returned the bike. Late lunch with our friend J at Doc's Motorworks was delicious. I ordered the Pork Carnitas Taco and was soooo close on ordering seconds. I mean, the carnitas were perfect and the CORN tortillas!! Emphasis on the corn because most places serve flour and that's just not cool with pork carnitas.

Currently Reading | Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Today I'm sharing this fantastical new book I'm reading, Big Magic (affiliate) by Elizabeth Gilbert. This book came out September 22nd and it has srsly taken over my Facebook feed. I know she's published other books, but the only other book I've read was Eat, Pray, Love. I've read it twice and even bought Mama Carrizo a copy of it in Spanish. <3 And we watched the movie because we adore Julia Roberts.

So yeah... For the last few weeks, I've seen this book pop up on my Facebook feed a lot. Along with the book on my feed, I also see her podcast, Magic Lessons, which apparently has been around for months. The excitement was growing and I thought about giving the podcast a try. Now, I'm not a podcast person per se but since I have a 45min to an hour commute to and from work I figured I'd give it a shot. That day was Tuesday. I listened to three episodes and really felt what was being said. It convinced me that I needed to get this book.. so I did.
