Weekend Snapshots

A lot happened this weekend. Personal shit I rather not discuss so let's talk about the good times!

Remidog enjoyed the window pretty much all day Sunday. He's always been a vocal kid and now he gets to harass folks that walk or drive by and its pretty annoying, haha! He barks at everything and gets way too excitamated about it. The blinds had to go up because he started chewing on it. Silly boy!

E and I went to his companies Christmas party at a bowling alley in downtown, just like last year. We didn't bowl but we had a blast. Finally danced with my husband after being together for 6 years, married for almost 3. What's even crazier is that not only did we dance but we danced spanish music. It was fun to watch all sorts of folks that don't have rhythm get down to some merengue haha!

On Sunday I baked cupcakes. I have never in my life baked anything and although they didn't come out as awesome as expected, they still tasted good. And I learned some things for my next cupcake batch. I'm pretty proud of myself for trying it out even though baking and cooking freaks me the hell out.

Friday Love 12.12.14 | Christmas Gifts for Him

Buying gifts for some guys can be tough so I made this list. It can work for some females too.. like me :) My husband is a big kid and I'm guessing most grown men are so I had to add toys of some sort. How cool is that super hero sleeping bag ($6)? I'm not sure how comfy it would be but its still pretty damn cool!

Happy Friday everyone!

Weekend Snapshots

The weekend was full of lots of activities. Home activities that is. Lots of cleaning and gardening. Yes, Ariana was gardening. Getting all types of dirt under my nails while pointing out all the earthworms so that E could toss them to a different side they could get to work on.

We were supposed to pick up our fake Christmas tree and decorations from my mama's casa that we left in the attic.. but we got busy and forgot. We did buy some ornaments for the year. I love you Hallmark! I normally like to buy one for each year but I made the mistake of taking E with me and ended up with three new ornaments. Lol!

Our Houston Texans played a fantastical game that we enjoyed at home in our jammies while doing some housework. This homeowner stuff is a nonstop job, man. It's kind of tiring but very rewarding. :)

The picture above is from a Vinted package I'm sending out today. I'm actually sending out three with Snoopy on them and a Merry Christmas card because being kind is what Vinted is all about! Have you joined yet?!

#LovePreLoved - Vinted Wishlist!

Today's post is all about my Vinted wishlist. I currently have 62 items (eek!) on my wishlist and Santa Ari is gonna gift herself some sweet goodies this year. All thanks to the lovely community members on Vinted :)

Christmas is around the corner and if these items don't convince you that Vinted is the place to buy #LovePreLoved goodies.. I don't know what will. My wishlist has lots of goodies for me but also some items that I think my friends&mom would love. Gifts aren't about where you bought them or how much it costs.. it's all about the love and thought you put into it.

Follow the link for more pictures of my Vinted wishlist :)

31 years ago today, Michael Jackson's Thriller video was released. I know folks who are still traumatized by this video!! I can't tell you exactly how old I was when I first saw it but I do remember how it made me feel. I couldn't get over how awesome the zombies looked. The dancing was crazy good and I knew that one day I would own that red jacket Michael was wearing..

..I'm 30 years old and I still don't have that jacket. -enter sad face here-

Do you remember how old you were and how it made you feel?!

Weekend Snapshots

New front door mat :)
My husband and I hit Home Depot this weekend. Our very first visit as homeowners. I kept telling him to slow down because my eyes were seeing everything in a new light now that we own a home, haha!

Our main reason for going to Home Depot was to get some parts for our lawnmower. If it were up to E, we'd have a badass $400 lawnmower but umm.. there's just something about spending that much cash on something that won't be used as much. We also needed a big garbage can since we don't get one from the City due to being outside of Houston City limits -shakes fist-

We ended up buying all sorts of goodies including a floor mat and the throne room got a new toilet!! The one we had needed to be replaced, big time! This is also the first toilet that E has installed that he'll get to use daily. TMI, but still pretty awesome, haha!  Another thing we did was install our tv on a wall mount in the living room, it looks freaking awesome!! Handyman husbands are the business!

Happy Thanksgiving 2014

Today we give thanks...

..to the folks we love and the friends who speak to our hearts.
..to the health we have and the glorious food we will eat.

But most of all, I give thanks to those two boys above <3
These kids have shown me what it is like to be loved unconditionally and most of all,
what it is like to be saved by beautiful souls like theirs.
How lucky I am to have experienced this twice!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones..
From the Reed boys & the rest of the Reed pack!
<3 <3

P.S. We tried getting pictures of the rest of the pack
but the boys seemed to be more interested in the treats than the girls were. Haha!
Two outtakes below :)

Wednesday Words

alex_elle // adrianmichaelgreen // rachelwolchin

Three Instagrams you should be following. Not because they have a lot of followers (which they do) or post delicious pictures of food (occasionally they do) but because the words they give us are magical. They can bring you clarity, relief and smiles galore. They motivate you to do better and to be a better version of you everyday.

Weekend Snapshots

Moon Driver at the Front Porch Pub. It's so, so refreshing!

It rained cats and dogs Saturday night, or so I'm told. I'm a heavy sleeper and apparently I slept right through it haha! After the hardcore storms, Houston always has beautiful days. That's what Sunday was, a glorious day! The Texans didn't win and honestly, I rather not talk about it :(

E and I got more work done at the casa. Our casa is starting to look like folks actually live in it haha! We really need more storage furniture. I have no where to set up shot glasses up or my M&M goodies.

The Remi Project strikes again

About two months ago, a mama dog had six puppies. Once the kids were ready to explore the world, they figured out a way to get out of the fence you see above. They lived in a house down the street from my work so we got to hang out with them almost daily. It broke our heart to see them roam the busy street we're on. Thankfully, I work with people who are dog lovers so we made sure to keep an eye on them, feed them and give them water. No dog or animal will be left with out water and food while I'm around. Being the huge dog lover that I am, it became a major goal for me to get these kids a good home. I shared the picture you see above on multiple social networks and asked my friends to do the same.

I can now tell you that all of them have been adopted by lovely people who are genuinely interested in their well-being. The white and brown little boy is the only one left but from what I understand, the owner wants to keep him. My next goal is to get him fixed before he gets old enough to get his mama preggos.

Yesterday the last little pup (above) was adopted by a coworker who was ecstatic to take her home to his daughter. They named her Manchita, which is similar to Spot in Spanish. His little girl was so excited, she cried for twenty minutes straight. Manchita is the only 4-legged kid at this home and has her very own human sibling.. I'm sure you can imagine my happiness!

Thanks to all that shared and left positive comments to get these kids adopted. Saving dogs is truly an amazing feeling that I will never get tired of! If you see an animal that needs a home, please help them. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. We need to help educate folks on how to raise a dog and how to treat them as a family member, not just some random animal. We are their voice and if we turn our backs on them, who will defend them?!

If you can't help an animal by adopting, look into donating your time at a shelter or rescue or even a couple of bucks. Those couple of bucks might not mean much to you but I guarantee you it'll go a long way.

For more info on The Remi Project, visit us on Facebook. We post dog funnies, news and share pictures of dogs that are in need of your help!

Weekend Snapshots

We've been at our new home for a little over a week now and it's glorious! The happiness this home brings our family is amazing! We are having fun organizing the new place and trying to figure out what colors we want on which walls. Our living room is currently a light yellow and it doesn't look too bad but it's just too much yellow for our taste.

The Texans won on Sunday! YES!! We finally let Mallet work some magic as our starting QB and boy did he come through for us. Sunday is also No Pants Sunday at our home. It basically means we don't dress up to go anywhere because it's fantastical staying at home all day. We only leave the casa if the Texans are playing which means we hit up our favorite Mexican joint again for the tastyass margaritas and we tried the enchiladas verdes!! Make ya wanna slap your mama!!

#LovePreLoved - The Secondhand Movement

First L.A.M.B. bag I purchased on Vinted at a sweet, sweet price!

Vinted launched a campaign, #LovePreLoved, this month to help spread the love and idea of buying secondhand clothes. I think its a great idea & since I love Vinted, let me tell you a bit about my secondhand buying experience.

Growing up with immigrant parents, living paycheck to paycheck, it was a normal thing to buy secondhand. My mom and I would hit up garage sales & flea markets pretty often. As a curious little girl, I looked forward to these adventures with her. Every trip had the potential of finding something sweet at a great price.

Secondhand was such a big thing for us that my mom opened up a shop in a flea market for a while. She sold all sorts of goodies.. clothes, furniture, shoes, purses, appliances.. the list goes on and on. In a way, you could say buying & selling helped pay for some of our monthly bills. Years later, mom gave it another shot & opened up a local store. The odds were against her which she accepted and she ended up moving on.

Vintage Batman shirt & Hurley shorts. Both barely used.

Local stores are awesome but this is where Vinted is different. You don't have to drive anywhere to buy cute shoes for that party next week. You don't have to worry about long lines or dirty stores. On Vinted, you can buy from the app on your cell phone or their website on a computer.

Secondhand buying at it's finest, people!!

The app makes buying and selling very simple and it's all at your finger tips. Make new friends & follow folks that have similar tastes in apparel as you do.

One of my favorite purchases that I found through the Vinted app, is the colorful L.A.M.B bag above. It's my first & only one cause these are not cheap. Yikes! Vinted made it conveniently cheap for me though. Thanks to the lovely female who had used it for years and was now ready to part with it. There's no reason why something you loved and cherished can't be loved and cherished by me. We've all heard Macklemore's Thriftshop, haven't we?!

Join in on the fun by checking out #LovePreLoved and #Vinted on your favorite social network. You'll see how many folks love & even brag about their secondhand purchases.

Babygirl is BACK!

After six days and so many tears.. we finally got our little girl back & we couldn't be happier! Our family is complete and now we can fully enjoy our new home!

We are incredibly grateful to have so many people genuinely concerned about our kids as if they were 2-legged kids. Since Leana Little went missing I've received multiple texts/FB msgs every day from random friends asking me if I had any news. Knowing that I have friends that care about me and my kids is an amazing feeling.

The lady who saved Leana Little, Kelly, is our freaking hero! She just so happened to have Friday off and saw Leana heading towards a main intersection. She couldn't let that happen so she somehow got our kids attention and she kept her safe for six days. Not only that but she took Leana and her own kid, Willie, to her brother's casa which is a casa on a whole bunch of land. Leana was totally living it up in her mini vaca from us. She was having a blast while we were all so, so sad. Kind of makes me giggle haha! She was a little weirded out by the new casa & the kids were all in our grill when they finally saw her!

Leana Little was saved because of her microchip. I cannot express how important these little chips are. If Leana ended up at a shelter that was at capacity and she didn't have a chip, her chances of survival could have been ridiculously slim. What's great about these chips is that they aren't pricey and can be done pretty easily. If you don't already have your pets microchipped, please look into it. It is completely worth it.

Thank you so, so much to everyone who showed us love these last couple of days!
We are forever grateful! <3

Gangster Wednesday

I share an office with my bossman at work. A couple of weeks ago, we declared Wednesday to be Gangster Wednesday. This means we jam the shizzle out of some Gangster music thanks to the fantastical Spotify and now you can too!! Exciting huh? Lol!

Below is a playlist I made with some gangster jams that you might enjoy too. Jams include Tupac, Skee-lo, Biggie, OutKast, NWA, Wu-Tang, MGK, Big K.R.I.T, Pimp C, Yelawolf, Cam'ron and much more. Some of these tracks are ol' school & will bring back memories, guaranteed!

We all have a little gangster in us, so why not jam with the greatest?! Enjoy & Happy Hump Day!

Weekend Snapshots

That single word describes how this weekend made us feel and how we continue to feel today. We moved in to our new home on Friday. Yay! The day started off as exciting as you'd imagine it to start for first time homeowners.. but it came crashing on us fast and hard by noon.

At noon, my husband and I realized we were missing one of our kids.

It's important you know that our kids are not runners. The kid that went missing is Leana Little, our little white girl. She is madly, deeply in love with E so I don't understand what happened. At some point during the move, she walked out of our front door and disappeared. We spent all weekend looking for her, crying for her and thanking neighbors who seemed to be genuinely concerned about our babygirl.

Realistic or Not?

E & I recently started watching The 100 on Netflix. I had no idea it was on the CW and had I known, chances are we never would have watched it. I don't like watching shows that have to be censored because of the channel it is on. I like to see the real deal type shows.. which brings me to the reason for my post..

Game of Thrones is criticized hard for how realistic it is. For example, one of the main characters is raped by her brother (also a main character) and the shitstorm it received was crazy. In the TV series, The 100, there's a scene where a 16 year old girl falls for a grown man (30ish) and they eventually make love. I'm not sure if it received any criticism because I wasn't aware of this show when it first came out but I can only assume it did. I know I said "No. No. No" over and over again until the scene was over.. which btw was really freaking long.

My question is.. do you prefer shows to be realistic to the story they are portraying or would you rather not have scenes similar to the ones above? I know folks get uncomfortable with rape scenes, as they should because that's a huge no no.. but at the same time, I prefer that shows are as real as possible. It makes me believe that the show is staying true to itself.

In case you missed it, I am not okay with rape nor do I think it is a normal thing.

All I'm saying is that in shows like GoT, rape was a common thing in that era. They didn't have consequences nor did people give a shit if it was happening. Other things they show.. men that are gay or bi, little boys training to go to war, beheadings and more. I'm not for or against these things but I appreciate the creators being brave enough to show these things in order to stay true to the story.

There are a ton of shows that have been hated on like GoT..Dexter received a lot of shit for being so damn violent but the whole show was based off a serial killer. Weeds got the same thing because it involved marijuana, guns and cartels.. again, the name of the show is Weeds. Masters of Sex finished their second season and some folks still think the content was too strong. What are folks expecting from shows these days?!

So my question again is..do you prefer shows to be realistic to the era they are portraying (staying true to the story) or if you would rather they skip scenes (ex: violence, sex, drugs) to make the show suitable for everyone?

Weekend Snapshots - November '14

Houston had another glorious weekend! Mother Nature is being kind to us and I'm wondering what the catch is haha! We didn't celebrate Halloween this year because.. well, there really isn't a reason other than our heads not being right. We've had so much going on with our personal lives and work that we just didn't think about dressing up or going out. Instead, we stayed at home and watched some Netflix and pigged out. Nothing wrong with a little down time right?!

The picture above is what mornings look like on the weekends at Casa de Reed! E went to work early Saturday and the kids and I cuddled a bit on the couch while I watched Lucy the movie with Scarlett Johansson. I liked where they were going with this movie but totally lost me at the end.. I still recommend ya check it out cause she's freaking badass!!

Dia de los muertos - November 1st & 2nd

Will you be celebrating Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead this weekend? Below is a little helpful chart I found on Pinterest explaining the difference between Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. Below that is my Pinterest board full of Dia de los Muertos goodies.. I totally just made that board today. That's the beauty of Pinterest.. before you know it, your board has a million pins and you've completely spammed your followers. Hope my followers forgive me.. and if you aren't already following me, whatcha waiting on?

Follow Ariana Shankasaurus's board Dia de los muertos on Pinterest.

Wednesday Words

Second edition of Wednesday Words.
I love Wordless Wednesdays but words from the interwebs can be motivating and inspiring.. they also hold a lot of truth. Look at the last one. If it isn't true then I don't know what is :)

Note: I did not make any of these. If you made one of these or know someone who did, please shoot me an email and I will gladly give credit :)

Weekend Snapshots Are Back!

The weather has been glorious in the H since Fall started. Leana Little has definitely been enjoying the weekend in the sun. She naps it up until her little brother tackles her. We're working on manners but Finnashit doesn't always get it.

This weekend we enjoyed some lazyness at the casa and we watched our Houston Texans finally win a game after a couple back to back losses. We also received word that we're closer to having a final decision on the casa we put an offer in a couple of weeks ago. Eek!

New shizzle..

Shellos everyone! I is back.. for now! If you haven't noticed, 3twentysix got a facelift thanks to CarrieLovesDesigns. I know I can never go wrong when I use her work. She's pretty awesome and always very helpful! If you're in the market for a blog facelift, look her up!

What's been going on..

- The Reed pack moved to a new rental home and we're really grateful to my godmama but we're ready for our first casa already! We found a casa a couple weeks back after looking at what seemed like a billion homes. We put our offer in and finally won. We've been playing the waiting game ever since.. Hoping to have good news real soon! Cross your fingers!!

- A huge part of our belongings are in storage and I'm starting to get paper crafting withdrawals.

- Been listening to some really good music lately thanks to Spotify and well, the interwebs. Check out Logic, a rapper from Maryland and You+Me, which is a folk music group with Pink and Canadian born Dallas Green.

- iOS 8 has been out for a little over a month and I still haven't updated. It's mostly because I'm lazy. Don't judge me.

- After the Blog Elevated conference, I shamelessly bought three domains. The creative juices get the best of me and I just couldn't help myself. More on this later.

-  Thug Kitchen cookbook came out earlier this month and I definitely recommend it.

That's all for now. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Blog Elevated 2014 - Moody Gardens, Galveston Texas

Oh hai, I'm back for a bit! I wanted to tell you how freaking awesome my weekend was. I was blessed with an invite to Blog Elevated this year. I attended the first one last year here in Houston and it was a blast! This year it was held in Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas which is about an hour or so from me. I wasn't sure I would attend because the location meant I needed to stay a night there in order to keep me from going back and forth. My bossman was gracious enough to give me the day off Friday so I drove my excitamated butt down there.

If you're a blogger and want to learn new things and mingle with folks that have the same interests as you, I recommend you look into attending a blog conference. I've attended three conferences and I cannot stress how helpful they are. Not only do you learn new things from folks who have been blogging professionally for years but you get to meet people from all over the country who are pretty awesome!

Warning: Heavy photo and text post.

Hiatus - Find me on Instagram

Still too much on my plate to update this regularly...

-enter sadface here-

But I will be back soon. Not only do I have a lot on my plate (totally not complaining), but I'm thinking of rebranding or redesigning my blog. There are a lot of changes happening in my life right now and I figured it would be a great time to do some changes on my little spot on the interwebs too.

In the meantime, my Instagram is always poppin'. Find me under a_shankasaurus.

Okay, it's really not always poppin', but I try to update as often as I can. The changes in my life have really helped me distance myself from social media.

My personal FB and 3twentysix's FB have been quiet the last couple of weeks.. and as much as I thought I'd miss it... I'm doing fantastical without it -shrugs-

Happy Hump Day!

PSA: Choose Your Battles Wisely

I'm sure you've heard something similar to this quote before. The common saying I hear is, "Choose your battles wisely." I relate it to relationships in my life and not just amorous relationships. Work relationships, friendships, family relationships. All types of relationships.

For the last couple of months or so, I've thought about this quote almost daily. It keeps me from saying and/or doing things that will either hurt someone around me or get me in serious trouble.

This weekend, my feelings were hurt (bitchslapped is more like it) because someone did not choose their battles wisely. I was put in a position that would have normally made me fight back. Thanks to this saying, I chose not to say or do anything to make the situation worse. I simply walked away, better yet- I hung up the phone.

I chose not to fight because I knew if I did, I would feel terrible. I knew that getting myself all worked up would accomplish nothing. I knew this person was being a jackass and would feel shitty about it later. I knew I wouldn't get an apology at a later time though and that it would not be brought up again by said person. See, I've learned this persons pattern. The battles this person chooses with me never end well. In fact, all they do is bring more resentment to the relationship. Sometimes I feel that if I reciprocate, they will realize how they've made me feel. Then I remember that if this person gave a shit, they wouldn't do this to me.

It's hard to keep your mouth shut when someone you care for is pushing your buttons.
It's even harder to come back from the shit you'll say or do because your buttons have been pushed.

Weekend Snapshots

Finnashit got a new collar this weekend. He is now pimping a brown leather collar.  He's not too happy about it but he looks all types of official now. E has been working on getting Finnashit to understand basic commands like heel, stay, sit, & come. Finnashit works fantastical when treats are involved but gets a little distracted when there aren't any. Sounds very similar to me :)

Home Purchasing: What I've learned so far

We've been looking for a house to purchase for a little over a week now. As you know, we almost bought a house but backed out due to not feeling very confident about the builder. We moved on and placed a bid on a lovely house this past Sunday. More shadyness happened and last night we decided to get out before we got screwed. -enter sad face here-

Here's what I've learned about the bullshit that comes with searching for a home..

  • Home listing photos lie. That backyard isn't as big as you think.
  • Ask for proof if it was recently replaced. Ex: AC, roof, foundation, etc.
  • Don't assume that the price on the listing is what the house will appraise for.
  • Don't act desperate, it gives them leverage over you.
  • Consider your daily commute before going out to see a house.
  • Be picky but not too picky.
  • Find out what HOA/Maintenance fees are.
  • Find out what your property taxes will be.
  • Watch out for haters. The folks that want the best for you but hate on your decision to buy said house.
  • Ask your realtor a lot of questions.
  • Make decisions as fast as is reasonably possible.
  • Don't apply for new credit, buy a car or change jobs.
  • Start your search early.
  • Stay current on all of your accounts.
  • Get a realtor you like & can trust. This process might take a while.
  • Be prepared to play games with Sellers & their Realtors. A lot of games.

And most importantly, don't let this process stress you out. You want to throw positivity in the air so that good things come your way. Getting into an argument with your spouse because you were to eager to get the house or didn't show enough excitement is just not worth it. You'll buy a house and it might not be the perfect house for you.. but it doesn't have to be your first and last house. It would be nice if it was like that because no one really likes to move.. but chances are you'll end up moving at some point.

We haven't reached the 10 day option period on a house just yet.. so I'm sure there's much more for me to learn. I'll keep ya posted :) Wish us luck!

Weekend Snapshots

The weekend started with puppies. Can't go wrong there now can we? The two furkids above are my sisters grandpuppies.. Her youngest furkid had three puppies and these two are the little girls. I call them Cry Baby & Tiny Baby, haha! I don't have to tell you how ridiculously delicious the puppy breath was right?! Didn't think so.

This weekend was my sisters birthday, 21 years old (I kid lol). We celebrated by doing what we do best, grubbing! We hit up Salt Grass and went all out. Steaks, artichoke dip and tropical sangrias. We ladies do not play! We take birthday dinners seriously in my family, haha!

E & I also looked at more casas on Sunday. Multiple casas down and we've already picked a winner. More on that once it all clears up a bit.

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Come on August, you're killing me..

I thought we were in the clear. I thought we had made a great decision. I thought we were on our way to starting a new adventure.. the Reed Family that is. But I was wrong...

We decided to back out of purchasing our new home. There were some things we weren't fully convinced about and some things that made no sense what so ever. The major thing we weren't happy with was the fact that the homes in the neighborhood we were going to buy in, hardly keep their value. That's a huge no no for us. We can't afford to buy this house and then lose in the long run. Making the decision to continue with that purchase could have potentially ruined us. We weren't willing to take any chances so we decided to keep looking.

It's a tough decision for us. We really liked the house and were ecstatic to move. After talking to E's coworker attorneys and our Realtor, we knew we had to pass on that house. So back to the drawing board we go.. back to the stress and frustration of searching for a home and bidding on it before anyone else does..

August has been tough.. really tough but we will pull through. We will make this home buying business our bitch and find the perfect home for us. This is your heads up.. I won't be online as much as I'd like ->FB, IG, this blog<- due to packing, searching and oh there's that one thing that a lot of you have... a job! LOL! Lots going on but I will try my best to keep folks updated as much as I can.

Mucho thanks for all the well wishes! We cannot express how grateful we are to have such supporting friends & family! <3

Weekend Snapshots

The feels for this weekend were intense. As you can see above, E & I bought our first home. Still lots to sort out.. its a lot of ppwk when you sign your soul away, yanno LOL! I can't begin to tell you how excitamated I am and freaking scared too. This is HUGE commitment and up until a week ago, we weren't even thinking of buying. We've been on a search for a house to rent but since no one wants our big kids.. the search was getting really frustrating. We decided to check out these builders, with no expectations, that my mom told us about. We met with them on Saturday and weren't too impressed. Our visit was short but we made an appt for the next day, Sunday to check out the models. We ended up getting a house we hadn't even thought of looking on a corner lot with a big backyard for our kids. The experience so far has been great.. and I'm sure they'll be hiccups along the way but we'll deal with them as they come.. cause that's what adults do, right?! ;)

So yeah, we bought our first home and that picture is us struggling to stake our sold sign on the ground LOL Reed Casa won't be complete till the end of September so that gives us enough time to get the rest of our ducks in a row :)
