Comicpalooza 2013 - Houston, Texas

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

Thank you so much to Brenda at Hello Houston! Bloggers for the heads up on this awesome event! It was my first visit and I had a great time. The costumes, the people and the awesome booths made it fantastical. My husband and I bought lots of posters and shirts. I was amazed at how cheap everything was. A couple years ago I went to DesignerCon in LA and spent a ton of money on toys, toys that were super pricey and are now just sitting there collecting dust. Smh. I vowed to never do that again. My bank acct thanked me for not going over board Lol!

My two cents..

  • Seeing the famous folk was cool!! We didn't get pictures or signed autographs, but we saw them and did the typical Ohh Ahh Lol!
  • Some people had legit costumes. Ironman had freaking lights and no Nike's on haha!
  • The posters were cheap! So of course we bought a crapload and now have no idea where we're going to put it. Dexter is currently hanging on our fireplace haha!
  • Shirts were roughly about $20-25, not too bad. E found a booth that had vintage shirts for $5. He bought 5 Lol!
  • Happy I wore chanclas and not my flats. I knew I would be walking a lot and would be bitching at my feet if I wasn't comfortable.
  • Parking was okay. We could have parked closer in the designated underground lot but the line was super long. Parked a little far and paid $10 for the day.
  • The organizing skills of the folks in charge left a little to be desired. The lines were LONG. There was no way to know which line you needed to be in. I asked a couple of the volunteers where will call was and was given wrong info. Finally figured it out and we got in the right line. Maybe if there were signs, it woulda been easier.
  • The food was expensive. I had BBQ. Links, beans, toast, and potato salad was $12+tax. That didn't include my drink. It was good though, real good. I wish I had some of that potato salad for lunch today haha!
  • I pimped my Jack Skellington backpack :] At these events you never know how much swag you're gonna get and merchandise you're going to buy. I didn't wanna carry it, rather put it in my backpack. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Overall, the three of us enjoyed the event and we're already making plans on what we're going to dress up as next year Lol!

Winner Announcement & Some Thrifting goodies

Thank you to everyone who signed up for this awesome giveaway. Congratulations to Robin Veearfour for winning! I sent you an email to collect your information. Please get back to me today and I will turn in your info!

I'm getting more and more excitamated as the days go by. I cannot wait to check this out and meet some new people! Let me know if you go, maybe we can meet up and say hi!

Thrift Finds

I went thrifting yesterday and found some brand new Express shirts GASP! I don't think I'll ever understand why people buy things and give them to Goodwill or thrift shops without ever wearing them. Smh. Either way  it goes, I came out winning! Definitely bought those Express shirts I saw and a couple other goodies. An hourglass, two beer company glasses (one from Alaska), and a cute picture frame. The pictures below are some of the things I saw but didn't buy unless mentioned so.

Reminded me of Marilla from CupcakeRehab ;] She's addicted to coffee mugs.

Dang Cowgirl Shirt
Yup, I bought this shirt!

Hour Glass
Totally bought this hour glass. It was calling my name! It's pretty big too. From my elbow to the tip of my fingertips. It's going to look nice in my living room... once I figure out where I want to put it.

Happy Hump Day! Hope everyone is having a good week!

Win a pair of tickets to Houston's Comicpalooza!

Yes people, this weekend is the Comicpalooza! It's a three day event right here in Houston, Texas. It'll be held at the George R. Brown Convention (GRB) Center and lucky for you, I have a pair of tickets for all three days!

For those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about, let me break it down. The first Comicpalooza started in 2008 here in Houston. Every year that goes by, there's a bigger and better turn out. I've never attended but have heard plenty of folks rave about how awesome it is. Who isn't interested in a comic book, science fiction, and pop culture convention?! That's pretty much everything i'm into Lol! Meet celebrities, check out booths, wear costumes, and have fun! Sounds fun to me.

Patrick Stewart from Star Trek is going to be there, along with the Star Trek: The next generation enterprise-D bridge! The set was rescued last year from being destroyed. Please tell me you know what I'm talking about?! Even if you're not a big fan (which I'm not, please don't hit me) I'm sure you've seen the show and maybe even liked an episode or two. That's gotta count for something right?!

Other guests include Michelle Rodriguez (Rawr!), Danny freakin' Trejo, Avery Brooks, Walter E. Jones, Peter Mayhew, Scott Steiner, and many more. Check out this link for the rest of the Guest list. The sponsor list is pretty cool to. Ikea, McDonald's, Texas Renaissance Festival, The Houston Zombie WalkYelp, Texas Art Supply, Half Price Books, Hello Houston Media!, and many more!

Check out the program and the exhibitors. There's definitely something for everyone, young or old. I've been a super hero fan for as long as I can remember and since this will be my first visit I am STOKED!! It's going to be pretty awesome and I can't wait.

The pair of tickets I have to giveaway are for all three days! The event starts on Friday, May 24th from noon to 8pm and it runs until Sunday, May 26th. It's located at the GRB like I said above, 1001 Avenida de las Americas, right across the street from Discovery Green. Follow the PunchTab prompts for a chance to win these tickets! Giveaway ends at 9AM May 22nd CT! I will announce the giveaway winner on Facebook and email them if email is provided!

Spread the word and Good Luck!

To keep up with the latest news, follow Comicpalooza on twitter and facebook. If you attend, please tag your posts and photos #CP2013 so others can see how much fun you're having.

Everything is perfect when you're a liar

I bought the Kindle version of this book from Amazon last night. I didn't get to far cause my eyes started messing with me but I can already tell it's going to be an awesome read! I'm not very familiar with who Kelly Oxford is but I did Google her before buying this book and found her twitter and tumblr. Both of which are both very entertaining. Visit her on twitter and tumblr.

What are you reading these days?!

A Beautiful Mess App

Everyone's talking about it and i'm no different. :]

In case you haven't heard, A Beautiful Mess came out with an awesome photo app. I know it's available on iTunes but I'm not sure if it's available for android yet. I'm sure they'll do something in the future though.

The app lets you add filters, doodles, text, borders, and phrases. You can purchase the addons for each of these in the app. I'm not sure how much it costs because the app doesn't make that clear.. or maybe i'm just not looking in the right place? Lol!!

Overall I think it's cute and a creative little app. A little change to the regular photo apps that are out there.

The app costs $.99 in the iTunes store and so far I haven't found any issues with it. It doesn't freeze and it loads pretty fast. You can share the photo once you're done and it saves to your phone automatically. I'm sure i'll be experimenting some more with it so check out my instagram. Also search #abeautifulmess on instagram and you can see how others are using it.

Let me know what you think and whether or not it's an app you think you'll use a lot.

Mother's day was pretty awesome! Anytime my sister, mom and I are together it's like a straight up comedy show. We clown so much and laugh so hard that I can only imagine what people are saying at us Lol! It's been rainy and pretty nasty in Houston the last couple of days so I was pretty surprised that yesterday was such a gorgeous day. Hot as hell, but still a very nice day!

How was your Mother's Day?!

Happy Friday - Kat Edmondson

The other day E was playing with his RC car new expensive hobby of ours and had the TV on for background noise. He had Austin City Limits on PBS on. Austin City Limits is full of awesome music. From jazz to rock to hip hop to tejano music. The show inspired the creation of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, an annual live music festival at Zilker Park in Austin that lots of folks rave about.

This show is where I found Kat Edmondson. She was on the May 4th show with Norah Jones. I'm not a big fan of Norah Jones, some of her music annoys me. I was in my room messing with the furkids and I heard a different voice. It was high pitched and reminded me of old timey music from the 20's & 30's, kinda like the shit I would hear on Boardwalk Empire I miss that show! Below is the song that was playing that caught my attention.

Kat Edmundson was born in Houston Stand Up! and then moved to Austin, TX. Austin is widely known as the Live Music Capital of the World! It makes sense that if she wanted to sing she should hit that city up. Her first album Take to the Sky had some covers on it and her second album was funded by Kickstarter. I think it's pretty cool that folks help other folks reach their dreams.

If you're into this type of music then check her out. She's doing some pretty awesome things for the music industry and singing with some cool folks. Below is my Spotify playlist of some of her tracks.
