Candy, Costumes, & Paint

It's been a couple years since I've dressed up for Halloween. Not because I don't want to or have no idea what to dress up as, but because there's never a plan as to what we're going to be doing. This year is no different. I feel like the month of October flew right by me and I've been left with my mouth wide open wondering wthizzie happened.

Since I don't have plans to dress up and don't have any concrete plans as to where we'll be, I figured I'd share some of the things I've found online that are Halloween themed.

A couple years ago I was a vampire or a witch Lol can't remember exactly what it was. I borrowed a lavish dress from a friend and had plans to do my face in some freaky way but never actually did it. Found this video on how to paint your face for Dia de los Muertos or just Halloween.

What I like most about this video is that she shows you two different styles of make up for this season and she also makes sure to tell you how to put the make up on so that it's not blotchy or weird looking. She has other videos and I recommend you take a look at those too.

I was lucky enough last year to join Xenia and her family to the Santa Ana Noches de Altares and had a fantastical experience. One that I will never forget. Pictures I took from last year are on my flickr - here.

In Houston we had a couple events this month, events that I missed :( but some are still going on..
Lawndale Art Center is having some awesome events again this year. I'm only putting these up cause I've attended and they're so much fun. Here's their schedule..

October 22 - November 10, 2012

Thursday, November 1, 2012
Demonstrations at 6 and 6:30 PM

Saturday, November 3, 2012
12-4 PM

Thursday, November 8, 2012
6 PM

I've been to the Dia de los Muertos event and the Sugar Skull workshop. Thinking of doing both of those this year as well and maybe the Papel Picado Workshop.

If you have pets, keep in mind that they become victims around this time of year and get scared pretty easily. Keep them indoors where it's safe and try not to scare them with silly costumes. Stressing them out is something we always want to steer away from.

Found on Instagram.

Please share with friends and family and Keep our furkids safe.

And now for some of Ari's costumes that I found on my hard drive Lol! Don't laugh or judge me haha!
Ari as a Plumber (E's Work Uniform) with Leana Little.

Ari & E as Vampires/Dracula/Witch?!

Ari trick-or-treating as a Witch. :]

Alright so I hope you all have a happy Halloween, full of lots of candies and awesome costumes. Please be safe out there and make sure to check the candy prior to eating it. Ya never know.

..till next time ;]

P.s. I'm still working on my LATISM'12 post. I just have so much to say haha!

100th Post - Latism'12 TODAY!

The day has finally arrived. I'll be attending my first blogging conference, LATISM'12,  later this evening and I am STOKED!! I talked about my new adventure here and what I'm expecting to learn from this. I've actually made friends with a few of the attendings and hope to meet them IRL at the conference.

The Agenda for the conference looks great. The topics in each room are very good and I'm kinda sad I can't attend all the talks due to some of them being at the same time. :( Still, I'm excited to learn whatever it is they are offering.

Registration opens at 6pm tonight so I plan on being there a bit early due to Houston's traffic always being a mess.  I was wondering where I should park since I've never attended a conference so I called the Hyatt Hotel and asked.  I was transferred to the Valet Dept and was told that parking is normally $15 but that since I'm attending a conference there, parking is $12.  Much prefer parking at the hotel where it's close and I don't have to walk the streets of downtown when it's a bit dark outside.

iPad, Nikon, and iPhone are fully charged. Snacks are ready for tomorrow. Chargers are in my purse. Writing pad and utensils are ready. Cardigan is nice and clean. Biz cards from Moo are ready to be given out. Got my ticket from Event Brite all done. I downloaded the app and can use the QR code to get in, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to also print out my ticket - just in case.

Expect to see a lot of IG and FB posts/images about Latism'12 the next couple of days.

Ahhh! Have I mentioned how excitamated and NERVOUS I am?!

CanNOT wait for tomorrow when all the talks start and I get to be motivated and inspried!

Wish me luck - Hope I don't freeze and get super shy Lol!

..till next time ;]

P.s. So glad I'm feeling better. There was just no way I was going to let the sickies get the best of me!
P.s.s. This is my 100th post - Freaking Awesome!!

Changes in Weather - Picture Post

Fall and Spring are the two times a year that I know for a fact I will get sick. The weather change is a massive wake up call for my crappy immune system. It's been rainy, humid, hot, windy, and chilly all within 5 days. Which explains why I've been sick for the last 5 days. Not only am I sick, but for the first time ever, I'm contagious enough for E to get sick as well. That's never a good thing because he hardly ever misses work. My horrible hectic-weather-change-sickie got him and he's had to miss the last two days of work. Aside from being sick it's been nice to lay around with my honey. Not technically near him because well..there's a lot of coughing, nose blowing, and a lot of "Ugh, I'm hot!" and "Shizzle, I'm freezing!" going on between the two of us Lol!

Klout + Perks = Happy Ari :]

Klout's mission is to empower every person by unlocking their influence. The Klout Score, a number between one and 100, is a representation of your overall social media influence. The science behind the Score examines more than 400 variables on multiple social networks beyond your number of followers and friends. It looks at who is engaging with your content and who they are sharing it with. - Via Klout's About page.
I've been a part of Klout for some time now and really enjoy the perks and giving my friends points for different topics in which I feel they influence me in.  I love watching my score go up but get sad when it goes down.  For some odd reason I went from 61 two days ago to 56 and haven't really changed anything. I keep  sharing on all social networks and continue to receive 'likes', RT's, or comments - Not sure what's going on there. No biggie though.

Last week (or maybe the week before?!) I claimed a perk for my fur-kids on Klout. They sent me three bags of Hill's Science Diet® Ideal Balancedog treats. Veggie Chips with Pumpkin & Yam, Jerky Strips with Real Beef, and Fruity Snacks with Cranberries & Oatmeal. Check out the pictures of my kids and treats. You'd think we starved them or something Lol!

LATISM'12 Houston

I've been blogging since I was a teenager but never took it seriously. It was just a place to vent my daily rants. Now that I'm an adult, blogging has become a great place to share my experiences and receive feedback from friends and strangers.  I've owned 3twentysix.com since 2010 now and I have learned a ridiculous amount of useful information that I wish I had known back in the day.

My good friend Xenia from Raised by Culture has been attending all sorts of Blogging Conferences and shares what motivates her to keep blogging and being the best person she can be. I love all the info she shares with me because it's inspiring and makes me want to do more with my blog. Thanks to her I found out about a Houston Conference called LATISM'12.

A pioneering social media organization, Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) has been hailed as the most influential online movement in the new multicultural Web.
LATISM, the largest organization for Latino and Latina engaged in social media, is a 501(c) 4 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing the social, civic and economic status of the Latino community.
LATISM also serves corporate brands, NGOs and government entities, with a broad range of services including research, event sponsorships, and leadership training. One of the most popular hashtags on Twitter, the #LATISM hashtag captures over 10 million impressions on a daily basis and enjoys the largest Latino network on Facebook. - From latism.org
Last week I received an email from the Houston Director Juan Alanis about a sponsorship to LATISM'12. Luckily, Xenia put a good word in for me and I am now attending my FIRST conference right here in Houston.

I can't wait. I'm excitamated. I'm nervous. I'm freaking out a bit. But overall I feel truly blessed to be a part of this.  Not only am I going to meet some very inspiring people but I'm excited to be motivated in ways I never thought possible.

This conference is going to help me figure out where I want to go with this blog and keep me focused on that. I'm hoping to learn more about myself and what I am capable of doing after this conference. I'm also hoping to make lots of new friends right here in Houston. Oh, I'm also pumped to meet Ruby from Growing Up Blackxican at LATISM'12. I've heard all sorts of sweet things about her and I'm sure we'll hit it off!

I've made a list of what I need to take to this conference and here it is..

  • iPad
  • iPhone
  • D - Nikon D60 DSLR
  • Black cardigan cause we all know conference rooms get cold
  • Two pens - Black & Blue
  • Notepad for all sorts of notes
  • Business cards I ordered from Moo.com
If you can think of anything else that I should take and haven't thought of, please let me know. I want to be well prepared for this. Thanks. :] Please spread the word. The more the merrier!

Please visit LATISM'12 for more information on this conference.  It is being held between October 25th to October 27th at the Hyatt in Downtown Houston. Oh and will be there. That should be enough for you to want to go haha! ;]

TexansMonday - Texans are 5-0!

I could have posted about #TexansMonday last night, but after such a fantastical win and the beers...I just couldn't do it.  I also could have posted a little earlier today but again, we had a fantastical win and my house was a mess. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as some of our previous parties. Whew!

On to the real deal.  In the past the Texans have had a reputation for starting off real strong and just fizzling out after the second quarter.  Apparently that's not the mentality the guys have this year! I love that it's not just about winning, but having a great time out there. Of course, we all want to win but as the countries #1 Tailgating City - We've got the Texans back no matter what! I know folks say baseball is America's favorite pass-time and that's cool, but my favorite pass-time is football. The game itself is entertaining, but I also love watching my friends and even strangers go through an emotional roller coaster Lol!

Game started at 7:30pm CT. We told friends to BYOB and we bought five boxes of Little Caesars pizza for $5 a pop and two orders of crazy bread with red sauce! Some folks prefer the $5 pizza at the popular pizza joints, but I LOVE me some Little Caesars Pizza.  In total we were 11 humans and 8 fur-kids! Having five dogs means you don't mind other dogs coming over to play. :]

Since I am a rambler, I thought it would be a better post if I showed you how much fun we had and parts of the game that were crucial to us. Follow the link to see the photos of the Texans Vs. Jets Monday Night Football! Click to enlarge any photo - Especially the last two. :]

link line-up..

i could tell you why i haven't kept up with my 'schedule' or i could skip the boring stuff and move on to a list of entertaining shit and then maybe tell you what's been up with me..

like many of you, i move from site to site looking for entertainment. true, most of my time is based on Facebook BUT its a social network dammit. there's links, pictures, and videos that i wouldn't have crossed had it not been for that one high school classmate i haven't seen or verbally talked to in over a decade. ahh that makes me sound old. which reminds me - i'll be 29 in six months. totally not a big deal. srsly.

anyways, when i was planning the weekly schedule for my blog i asked some friends for help on themes for each weekday. my friend marilla at cupcakerehab.com linked me up with tracy at shutterbean and her 'i love lists, friday' theme.  i think it's a great idea since i'm always sharing shit on Facebook. but i'm obviously having issues with keeping up with the day themes. see what had happened was...ummm... lol because of this i decided to stay away from the crazy themes. i might do some here and there but i doubt it'll actually stick.  what i will keep doing is themed posts. i think that's easier for me to keep up with. also just so you know, it's not that i don't have anything to write about. i do! i'm just not doing it. i blame the lazyness in me. smh.

and here we go..i called my list the 'link line-up' :]

  • this will make you feel old. i got this from tracy's list cause i mentioned getting older before and damn does this make me feel old
  • these photos are sweet and had the awe affect on me. lots of mommies/mommies-to-be in my life right  now and i can't even imagine what they are going through
  • thinking of the shutter as my eye is something i wish someone had explained to me sooner so i wouldn't have had such a hard time understanding lol
  • i tried this and nothing happened lol maybe it'll work on your sinuses
  • i'm sure you've seen this recently because it's been on blast! i think it's so creative and reminds me of jason lee's photos of his two daughters
  • as a blogger it's important to know that you can and will get sued if you use someone's picture
  • a cute how-to make a mini journal even if you don't think you're creative
  • this a helpful how-to for dog calluses. i'm going to try it on jay, my boxer, cause she has a couple on her front paws
  • five of the handiest apps for your android or iphone. i'm a huge fan of pocket. using that app on my iphone/ipad/or computer is how i saved the links for this post
  • i never realized how excited folks got in the fall cause of pumpkins...this year everyone's going crazy. all my social networks are full of pumpkin comments or photos and of course i'm no different so the last link-up is marilla's pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes. i'm a HUGE cheesecake fan and as usual, have been drooling over her pictures
hope these were somewhat entertaining or helpful. i personally have these all saved for future reference.

as for why i've been procrastinating..or not posting. i've been working with my MIL making websites.  it's sooo much better than being locked up in an office with folks i don't give a damn about.  i'm making some money and learning from one of the greatest minds out there. css and php are srsly no joke. i miss the days of plain ol' html. -sigh

..till next time ;]
