bigger and better..

my dad said, "moving to a house is like having a whole different life, there's nothing like it!"
we made a month at the new casa this weekend and if i didn't agree with what my dad said..then i'd be lying.  it really has changed our lives for the better.

living in an apt is one thing, but living in an apt that is full of wannabe gangsta's and crime is unacceptable.  we broke our lease and rented my step-mom's casa for chump change.  if i told you how much our rent is, you probably wouldn't believe me..we still don't believe it.

since we moved to a casa with a HUGE backyard that meant jay could come live with me again.  she's lived with my mom for the past 2 years and i've missed her hard headed ass like crazy!  we've made her head of security and leana little has been named second in command!

today also happens to be the first day our lawn was cut.  my dad got the hookup from a friend of his and gave us all sorts of lawn care equipment.  i don't think i've ever seen someone so excited to do lawn work like i did today with my mister.  he was smiling or grinning in every picture!! :]

i'm really happy that he's happy and that all of our puppy dogs are happy too! our drive is about the only thing that sucks but ya can't have everything right?!

other than the lawn maintenance that was done today, we finally finished our xmas shopping!! -whew- xmas is fun, but def not shopping for it! ppl are maniacs with the shopping process.  every year i tell myself that i'm going to get xmas shopping out of the way early, but that never happens. maybe next year?!  i put a lot of thought into this year's gifts..normally i don't give two shits lol sorry..but this year i bought some good shit!

..till next time. ;]

HIWI..

as much as i've talked about moving to california and forgetting all about texas..i'm not quite sure i'd be able to do it! other than the fact that i can't stand the weather..i love everything else about it.  it's cheap and it's home, my lovely home!  on saturday while waiting for the girls to finish using the bathroom at cactus music, i spotted a book with the words HIWI on the cover.  i picked it up and read 'houston. it's worth it.'  when i realized that it was a foto book about my beautiful HUMIDASS city..i told myself i had to buy it.  it was pricier than i expected but def worth it.  i showed it to a couple of my friends and told them to pick a page with words that they liked and this is the turn out...

"i've lived in LA; san francisco; washington, DC; new york; and florida, but the nicest people i have ever met are, for some reason i have never understood, right here in houston"

"what're a few roaches and a tad of humidity between friends?"

"the smog makes the sunsets amazing."

"because when you walk out of the terminal at hobby, you know the air is there."

"the rain.  large soak-you-to-the-bone rain drops, fierce, beautiful lighting.  it rains so hard, you can barely see.  and it rains often enough to humble you, to show you what is really powerful in the world, and to remind you of what matters."

"only in houston can you smile at someone and they will smile back without second guessing it."

"drive straight before turning"

"houston is like a free MFA program.  artists can still afford space here, and as a result, there's a thriving artist-run scene.  the menil is badass, easily digestible in scale, and one of the most peaceful places in the world."

recommend this book to anyone who loves houston.  the fotos and the words really made me feel proud to be a houstonian.

lots of festivals going on this month..can't wait to take D with me and capture them all..

california 2010..

to be completely honest, i had a GREAT time in california.  the fact that i was alone helped a lot too.  i met a lot of people and saw many, many places and yet i was alone...no familiars anywhere.  i remember calling my mom saturday afternoon and telling her i was home sick...she laughed and then i said, 'NO not home sick..i think it's just that i haven't seen someone i know since thursday morning.'  weird, i know.

since i started P90X before i left..that meant i had to keep it up somehow.  i don't jog in houston..i can guarantee you that i'll pass the fuck out..but i jogged every morning in california and loved it.  the weather is great for jogging or just a simple walk.  i didn't eat healthy food but i ate small portions of what i actually did eat.  as for alcohol, i had a hard time finding dos x in bars or clubs..not sure why that is..but yeah i may have had a two beers max a night.  not much of a drinker..

thursday night, i paid a visit to the colorful sunset blvd and the viper room.  saw some nice acts in the lounge.  some entertaining and one left me wondering wth he thought he was doing.  those pictures are all in my flickr account so check 'em out. :]

saturday, the 11th i was given a '79 station wagon volvo as a loaner.  i drove it to the lomostore first for my pinhole class. haha, that sounds hilarious!  45 minute talk with satumi, who is a cool ass teacher.  her smile keeps ya interested ;]  the cool thing about the class is that if you have a diana f+ camera then you didn't have to pay anything for the class...which is what i did.  thank goodness i took it with me :]

so yeah 45 minutes of satumi explaining the pinhole class and then we all got to go walk santa monica blvd and take pictures.  everyone took about 12 or so pictures cause it's 120mm film.  i took about 24 cause i bought the 35mm back right after i got my camera.  when it was all said and done..i bought a black super-sampler and a purple tank top. :] still haven't finished that roll..but i'm sure they'll be pretty nice!

after my fabulous class i drove over to hollywood blvd for the tourist part of my trip.  took forever to find some damn quarters so i could park somewhere.  once i had the damn quarters, i couldn't find any parking.  i ended up parking a couple blocks away and finally reaching hollywood.  once there my sister's told me to funny luis miguel's star.  that took forever and a day until one of my sisters found what addy it was at. lol!  i walked over to a souvenir shop where my 'nice-ness' came off as 'i give a fuck', so this security guard felt the need to follow me around the store talking about texas and so on.  pretty annoying but the guy looked like he needed to talk..so as i shopped for shit, he talked and i agreed.  i spent $100 in that store and came out with a couple shirts, shot glasses, mug, and some key chains for my family and my crew.  can't forget them right?!  by the time i finished it was dark so i called a friend and talked with her until i got to the car..but umm where did i park?!  after panicking for a bit..i saw a familiar store and saw the car. lol!  saturday night i ate indian food for the first time...pretty good if you ask me.  spicy, but very tasty.  the one food i never ate was mexican food..it never even crossed my mind and i eat that shit on a regular at home.  i hear it's waaay different then what the mexican food over here tastes like. damnit..next time i'll try it for sure.

sunday morning i did my regular jog and then got ready to go to the hollywood farmer's market with textdrivebys, her son and her hubby.  i had a blast checking that place out..so many people.  i ate a puposa..HA, haven't ate one of those in ages!  i took a couple of pictures of her son, duke with the supersampler..can't wait to see those.  we visited the urbanoutfitter's store looking for film camera's but didn't really see anything we liked so we walked outside where we took a picture together and then moved on to space15twenty store..i bought a book recommended by rain..it's all good by boogie.  the pics are a bit intense..but really good shots. check out his blog here.

overall i had a great time, took good pictures, hung out with some friends, met new people, bought some things, and came home with a great story to tell. :]

thank you california for treating me so damn well that i cannot wait to go back..too baddd you're so damn expensive..

..till next time ;]

eventful weekend..

this past weekend was fun-effing-tastic! ;]  friday night my friends and i went to 'the mink/the backroom' a small little club who had a couple of local bands playing.  i don't get out much so of course i was stoked when i was invited. the band we were looking forward to is called the tontons.  i heard from a friend who they were and how great they sounded, but never actually heard them.  i got home that night and looked them up on itunes.  my favorite song of the night, syrup.  ahh it's beautiful!  look it up on itunes and hear the preview, you'll love it, promise!  so the night was great due to the sweet bands we heard and the fact that i had my friends with me.  we were missing a couple of girls, but they were there in spirit for sure.  the only thing that i can complain about that night was the fact that there was no AC.   or better yet, there was AC but it wasn't good enough for us..we were all sweating bricks.  i'm guessing the reason why they didn't have it on was so that we would buy more alcohol.  bastards!! after the show we took our sweaty asses to see some mexican food.  we LOVE to eat!!

saturday was pretty awesome too!  my guy and i went to lunch with his family.  unfortunately not for a happy cause..his cousin bubba is being shipped out to afghanistan :[ were not to happy about it, but we definitely understand. we enjoyed a great lunch with the family, had many many laughs and left there pretty damn proud of bubba. :]  after that we spent some time with my guy's brother and some friends and headed off to the best show EVER!!

we saw...JO KOY!!  i swear i haven't laughed that hard in a very very long time..and if i have, it wasn't that good cause i don't remember it. :D  if he's ever in your town..please please go see him, i swear you won't regret it! not only did we laugh our ass off at his jokes, but he kicked two drunk bitches out for annoying the hell out of him [& us].  after the show we stood in line for a picture with him, bought some shirts that he autographed for us.  [not sure if you can tell, but i was suckin the gut in for the pic lol]. he seemed real down to earth..and super duper awesome!

we went to sleep way too late that night so of course we didn't wake up till 2 in the afternoon on sunday. haha! yeah that's how we do in my casa.  i checked my fb on my blackberry and come to find out, jo koy was at my all time favorite restaurant, cafe piquet.  i told my guy and we debated it for a bit...but then decided we didn't want to watch the guy eat lunch so we didn't go.  either way it goes, he was hilarious and i loved it.  i cannot wait to see him in the future.

it's been a good month so far.  thank goodness for that.  seems like the august's from my past all have bad memories so i'm glad this one's been great.

happy tuesday everyone.

..till next time ;]
